the Reform councillor says something, something, blah, blah the Pride flag is ”divisive”, your excuse for a political choice, it’s a PLC, not a party is seriously ducking divisive

    2. Love this. There was an article in the Unison magazine about how council staff reacted at a different council when Reform banned the pride flag.

They absolutely covered their desks in flags, and one worker even put a retractable pole on his car, and flew a huge pride flag from it everyday from the carpark outside the building.

    3. Reform: Islam poses a serious threat to our country’s values: look at their regressive and poor attitudes towards women, children and LGBT etc we need to deport them.

Also reform: look at these party members actively posting negative things about women. We are going to cancel LGBT history events and tell libraries they cannot promote it. We are going to plunge more children into poverty and many people attending our hatred incited protests have or will be arrested for violence towards their female partner.

It’s funny they’re demonising a culture they’re actually quite similar to.

I’m gay but I really don’t see the point in having flags or badges. If I go to my local government/council offices for anything I don’t need to see people waving or wearing anything to make me feel ‚accepted‘. If anything I just roll my eyes at them because most of the people wearing them are probably straight white women who are just virtue signalling.

      This is the way.

Now just waiting for Reform to stop pretending this was ever about money and ban people buying stuff out of their own pockets.

    6. I always find it pathetic how Pride is supposedly political, and that’s the stupid reasoning bodies use to say people can’t wear badges or have flags etc. It’s not political, it’s human rights.

    7. Given that one of Reform’s flagship reasons to oppose immigration was that immigrants ‚don’t share British values of tolerance and acceptance‘, what did they expect?

You can’t run on one platform and then as soon as you get into power expect people to do the opposite. You’re local councillors, not fucking royalty.

    8. While Farage seems to love hiding parts of himself from public view, I dont really want to. That’s what pride is for.

As sad as it is to see the establishment distance itself from pride I do love to see pride returning to its roots of protest and non conformity.

      Love and solidarity

They can do this from now on, instead of flying the eyesore up a flagpole.

    11. How about, ‚you’re at work, express yourself on your own time‘? Whether it’s Palestine, Pride, Save the Whales, etc. you’re being employed to do a job not support a cause.

Good. Every sexuality needs to be known. These flags represent every single person in this country.

    13. Good. Not everyone supports the lgbtq movement, some of us are religious. Even some gay people say it doesn’t represent them or their values.

Fly whatever flag you want on your own property. Not in government buildings.

‚On the subject of banning the LGBTQ+ flag, he said: „While the Pride flag is often presented as a symbol of inclusivity and diversity, many people view it as a political advocacy flag…The party only permits the Norfolk County Council flag, which is currently being flown on top of the building in Martineau Lane, along with the Union flag, the St George flag and the Norfolk flag.‘

I personally view the St George’s flag as a flag of political advocacy. When will it be banned on public spaces?

I think that the badges are a great thing all round.

Sexuality, gender etc. are the most personal matter and if people want to celebrate this; it’s a great way to do so.

If you want to display the symbol, great – and if you don’t (regardless of sexuality, gender – also great).

Pride has massively changed in recent years and seems a long way from its origins (much like Notting Hill Carnival) and in doing so has perhaps lost a bit of it’s intended meaning.

I’m not a Reform/Restore supporter, but I see some of their point with this (perhaps not supporting the events that have now been cancelled in a lot of places) but I don’t see how having the flag flying has any impact?

I also don’t think our buildings should be displaying the Ukraine flag either. We already have two flags – that’s enough. Ukraine isn’t part of the commonwealth and Putin isn’t exactly quaking in his boots because a town in England has a flag flying.

Our public buildings shouldn’t be displaying any other national flags unless it’s part of a visit etc. or on Remembrance weekend.

Does our flag fly out there routinely?

I get that a lot of people won’t like any of this, but ultimately – when people were „raising the colours“ (not something that I necessarily was behind – it didn’t do anything, really and no streets or areas were actually ‚reclaimed‘) – how many people who are now complaining about the LGBTQ+ and Ukrainian flags not flying had the attitude of „it’s only a flag“ ?

The scariest part for gay people must be realising that all their allies have been virtue signalling the whole time. L

      >“Rather than engaging in virtue signalling or political grandstanding – none of which improves the lives of residents – we’re focused on common sense, pragmatism and getting the job done.“

      By dicking around with flags…

It’s pretty weird how not flying a flag celebrating people’s sexuality for an entire month from a council building is in any way controversial whatsoever. Society is strange.

Just do your job in the council… couldn’t careless about the flag or badges

Council just useless at their jobs that’s the main concern
