    1. Buddhism is the most dominant religion, followrd by Protestantism, Catholicism and Islam. Atheism is not included in the map.

Protestantism and Catholicism are churches, not religions. Christianity is a religion.

I’m still amazed how some people don’t get Set Theory

Wish we got more info like %s and raw numbers

Like Xinjiang’s huge but Ningxia could have way more Muslims in it just via population density or actual %

    4. Not including numbers makes the map quite useless. Especially considering it’s an outwardly atheist nation where the majority of people have no religion.

This is a drastic simplification of religion in China which ignores folk spirituality (literally the biggest religious category in China) and the fact that most religious Chinese are syncretists/multi-religious people.

    6. Chinese folk religion would be the largest if it was considered as official religion

How Chinese people can be Christian??? Unless I missed something? Catholicism in Beijing sounds hilarious

    8. Socialism destroyed Chinese culture for European religions to flourish. Same for other Asian countries.

    9. If we’re splitting Christianity to its denominations, it’s only fair if you do it for Islam too (which I believe is mostly Sunni)

    10. Interesting how we split Christianity into different sects for these maps but not Islam nor Buddhism. Because Inner s Tibetan Buddhism is not the same as Guangxi’s Mahayana Buddhism, and is not the same as Yunnan’s Theravada Buddhism.

      Really!?!?!?

      Catholicism and Protestantism!?!?

I would **NEVER** have thought any Christian religion have a sizable presence.

It’s that green part that’s the major issue. Just like it is everywhere else in the world

Catholicism and Protestantism ? where did u find them ?
I’ve been living in China for 15 years, and maybe saw less then 5 (five) christian churches.

    14. The biggest religion in China is a sort of folk form of Daoism. Ancestral worship, incense, deities, self mutilation….that sort of thing.

    15. Let’s see some numbers:
      Religious Demographics (2026)
Non-Religious / Folk Religion: ~73.56% (Includes strict atheists, agnostics, and those practicing syncretic folk traditions)

Buddhism: ~15.87% (Largest organized religion; dominant in Tibet and widespread in Fujian)

Taoism, Folk Sects, and Others: ~7.60%

Protestantism: ~2.19% (Significant concentrations in Zhejiang, Anhui, and Henan)

Islam: ~1.45% (Concentrated in Xinjiang (58%), Ningxia (34%), and Qinghai (17.5%))

      Catholicism: ~0.34%
