IMO this was a very stupid and petty mistake by the town. Nowhere in the land use bylaw does it target anything to do with this sign or its contents – it’s actually highly illegal for a town to ban this type of content on a sign as it violates charter rights. Morgan should appeal, because he will win the appeal, because the town doesn’t have a real case.

This brach of separatists (just sending a message) is more concerning to me than the others, but lettithem show the denialits how many there are seems to out way the harm of leaving it.
When even somewhere as extremely conservative as Taber (Bow River 78.87% CPC 2025 Federal, Taber-Warner 75.29% UCP 2023 Provincial) is telling you to take it down, you know how deeply DEEPLY unpopular the separatist nonsense is.

Canada has protected speech not free speech. The difference is basically the powers that be have a right to silence and remove things in the guise of public interest. As people of average intelligence think separatists are instigators, it makes sense to take down controversial messages before things get out of hand. Nuisance is the right word for it.
