    1. It was a gift to celebrate the 1000th anniversary of the Duchy of Normandy back in 1911. A rune stone decorated by Gerhard Munthe.

It’s placed in the botanical garden in Rouen, Normandy (France).

Impressive that your title managed to include THREE false statements.

From what I’ve been able to gather, it wasn’t a gift from Norway at all. I believe it was a gift from a Normandy association in Norway, completely unrelated to the government. Basically the Normandy diaspora in Norway giving a gift to their home region. Would be great if someone who speaks French could either correct or confirm, as seemingly all sources on the statue are in French.

Nothing about the context of the gift is related to vikings. I guess it could be interpreted as the viking age being an important formational time for the relationship between Norway and Normandy? Maybe? I think the viking stuff is there mostly to show that it’s from Norway.

      And it’s not a regift.

Please don’t just throw things out on the internet without doing the teensiest bit of research beforehand.

Also, Gerhard Munthe, who decorated this rune stone, was a well known and acclaimed artist, represented in the Norwegian National Museum:

His art and designs have been featured in separate exhibits at the Norwegian National Museum, such as for interiors created by Gerhard Munthe:
