Wasn’t this the same thing last time, so Canada and Mexico started talking and he immediately signed on to CUMSA?

Well he doesn’t actually get that option for couple of years so, hopefully he’s dead by then.

Dont worry about it, the usa can’t afford tariffs any longer with inflation over 4% and rising. Theyll have to back down.

Ok – so that means it won’t be extended past 2036. (For now)

Renew it. Don’t renew it. Doesn’t matter. He won’t honour it anyway.

Guess he wanna force us to make a lot of compromise before midterms

It’s in effect until 2036 and passed into law by Congress.
Whatever.

In pretty sure the renewal is automatic and withdrawal needs an act of Congress, however the dictator is gonna do what he wants.
Right now it’s a review. It doesn’t just sunset.

When will he back out of this? Talks are still on going but I do believe he will renew the agreement eventually because of some concession or something else.

It’s a review…not a renewal. CUSMA is in place till 2036. By the time it has to be renewed…he will be dead. This review is only to decide if it should be extended beyond 2036.

Canada should just charge tariffs on the electricity, oil & gas, farming essentials, as well as water the U.S.A. buys.
Should change a few minds really quickly.

Now to expect 2-3 weeks of flip flopping.
Although, from my understanding the US needs to submit in writing that they intend to withdraw, and then it would be 6months. This can be done at anytime. However, if they don’t agree to renew it for 16 years, it just under goes annual reviews until sometime in 2036. I think this is more a ploy to try and dictate each year and control the laws other countries try to enact in their own borders.

Just some random thoughts:
Mexico is the #1 supplier to the US of external autos and parts (separate from the structure of the auto pact). 16 of every 100 vehicles in the US are Mexican made: GM, Nissan, VW, Toyota, Honda. Mexico is also #3 ranking to the US for computers and monitors. Not to mention produce. And tequila!
Canada is the US’s #1 supplier of NG ($160-$170 billion annually). Canada is the US’s #1 supplier of oil (3.6 million – 4.3 million BPD / monthly). Canada is the US’s #1 supplier of uranium (36% of total annual requirement, about 20 million tons per year). Canada is the US’s top supplier of potash (80%-83% annually). Canada is the US’s #2 supplier of copper (18% annually). Canada is the US’s top supplier of aluminum (36% – 40% annually, although Canada is shifting to the EU and Asia with Trump’s tariff war). Canada is the US’s top supplier of soft wood lumber products (80%-84% annually).
The above are from StasCan & the US Dept of Commerce from April – May 2026, although the data points for aluminum and uranium exports will shift as other signed deals come into force (UK, EU, India, Asia).
I can keep going for both countries.
Watch the DOW and the Bonds market (already).

It doesn’t matter either way; he has proven that his word means absolutely nothing. He personally negotiated and signed the current deal, calling it “most important trade deal we’ve ever made“ and a “historic victory for American workers” at that time, and we know he has since failed to honour it and described it as a horrible agreement that takes advantage of the USA. So, with a deal or without a deal, it’s all the same thing. He’s one of the biggest POS to ever wonder this planet.
Radiant-Vegetable420 on
Maybe its time for Canada to jack up the price by 15000% on or just plain stop sending the US Aluminum, uranium, Lithium, lumber, nickel, potash, wheat, beef, electricity, etc, and Canada should also cash in the approximately $400+ billion in U.S. Treasury securities Canada holds too.
Slow-Firefighter5187 on
No Problem, when this current deal expires in 2036 maggots will have long consumed any trace of the turd. In the meantime, we’ll have to be having these same discussions each and every year until 2036.
