Ich stieß unerwartet auf eine polnische Lim-5 (eine in Polen hergestellte Kampfjetvariante der MiG-17), die auf einem Flohmarkt in Zentral-Texas zwischen Antiquitäten lag.
Ich war dort nicht auf der Suche nach Flugzeug- oder Militärgeschichte – es war eine völlig zufällige Entdeckung. Dieser Moment der Überraschung veranlasste mich schließlich, einen kurzen Dokumentarfilm (weniger als 9 Minuten) zu drehen, in dem ich versuchte zu verstehen, was dieses Flugzeug dort tat und wie es in diesem Feld landete.
Der Film folgt der Entdeckung und dem Versuch, die Geschichte des Flugzeugs vom Polen des Kalten Krieges bis ins ländliche Texas zurückzuverfolgen.

I knew there was easy access to weapon in Texas, but I didn’t expect you could buy a fighter jet at a flea market.

Little known fact is that theres an old Polish settlement in Texas called Panna Maria where they still speak old Silesian Polish, im talking from the 1800s.

Many retired polish air force jets (that weren’t scrapped), including LiM-5s were sold on civilian market. Some of them were acquired by test and evaluation squadrons, some were resold between museums and private collectors and finally ended up on american market. Few pieces are even kept airworthy and are used for airshows
