As an Armenian, Abkhazia is one of the oldest Georgian populated areas in Georgia. Western Georgia in general is where the Kingdom of Colchis was located and even without that linguists trace the area where all Kartvelian languages originated to Western Georgia (so proto-Kartvelian being spoken there from which Georgian, Mingrelian, Svan, and Laz descend). I hope it’ll return to Georgia soon!
