      Not the famous Kerch bridge.

      A bridge connecting Crimea in the north-east to the mainland that Russia uses to resupply.

      They have to now use a different bridge further west closer to Ukrainian held territory.

      This isn’t going to be a good season for Russian tourism in Crimea. People are finding more petrochemicals on the beaches than at the gas stations.

      Repeated drone strikes. They had to hit it a bunch of times because it is a big slab of concrete.

      If the russian soldiers weren’t too busy being tortured for their wages by their captains who came out of prison a few years ago they’d be real upset about this.

      This is significant because it cuts one of the main supply routes for Russian forces in Crimea, which has been a critical logistics bottleneck for them. Does anyone know if there’s a secondary route they can use, or is this pretty much forcing them to rely on the Kerch Strait crossing which is even more vulnerable to attacks?

      Crimea is under siege. It’s not a cinimatic one, but a slow starvation of resources. There are only 3 ways onto Crimea: Through occupied Ukraine there are a few narrow connections, the Kerch Strait Bridge, and via boat. The land corridor supplying Crimea is a drone infested death trap for any significant supply convoy. The ferries are either keeping the Moskva company or undergoing extensive repair (with the expectation that once repaired they can only supply for a few days before they get droned). After it’s last damage/repair the Kerch Strait Bridge was declared not structurally sound enough for heavy military equipment. Crimea cannot be sustainably supplied by Russia.

      Crimea is more important for pride than for strategy. The naval base is inoperable, and it’s usefulness as a forward operating drone base isn’t unique and can be done in other areas of occupied Ukraine. Ukraine is a long way off from having and troops there. What’s most important is that it’s a symbol of Russian and Putin’s military might and prowess. Russia will throw air defense and resources disproportionate to it’s usefulness, to defend something which is difficult to defend. Russia won’t lose any ground in Crimea (for maybe a year), but they’ll lose resources which could have been sent to the front.
