    1. Et il va regrèter de pas se l’avoir fermer encore une fois … dans 3… 2… 1…

And he’s going to regret not shutting up once again … in 3… 2… 1…

Is Québec derailing another massive project again? Any reason why this time?

    3. So they don’t want a pipeline because it’s bad for the environment but they also do not want high-speed rail which reduces pollution…

    4. So since city transit is a provincial responsibility, that means he’d increase funding for it? Not just keep it broken and blame the feds?

He wants to do this because the integration of the economies through HSR weakens the case for separatism. The case for separatism in Quebec has been weakened in general with the further integration of freeway networks with the other provinces over the last 30 years. That being said, I don’t believe his government would even be allowed to do this, as the HSR Network Act places this project solely within the realm of the federal government.

    6. Hilarious, so then the government will just build it in Ontario at which point this guy would probably start complaining that the federal government is prioritizing Ontario’s over Quebec by only building HSR in Ontario

Just build it in Ontario and forget about Quebec. Quebec already takes enough of everyone else’s money.

    8. A gift to the Quebec Liberals and CAQ. This, plus what seems like openness to reviving Energy East by those two parties could be a disaster for the PQ.

Ok so Windsor to Ottawa via London,kw, Hamilton, Toronto, Peterborough then.

You know what? Do it. Let them. Let them pull out of the project we’ll the rest of the country goes forward with it. Once it’s in place and all the benefits become apparent Quebec will come begging on its knees for it to be added to their province as well, and if the PQ still refuses then they get to deal with a bunch on irate Quebec people. Win-win in my book.

If we don’t get to say no to Alberta pipelines, they shouldn’t get to say no to public transport lines, or pipelines to the east for that matter.

We need to take separation completely off the table for everyone some how so we can move forward as a country.

Maybe you all should read the article.

„The real problem with transit is not that Quebecers can’t efficiently commute to Toronto, but that they’re unable to effectively commute within their own city,“

      Classic redditors.

„“The real problem with transit is not that Quebecers can’t efficiently commute to Toronto, but that they’re unable to effectively commute within their own city,“ the party leader wrote in French.“

both can be a problem at the same time.

    14. Support for commerce, tourism, citizen mobility between major business centers are not beneficial to Quebecers??

    15. The weakness of our federation is getting very tiring. I don’t know how we’re supposed to get anything done nationally when our federation practically has the power of the EU

    16. bugabooandtwo on

Ok. Then let’s just kill high speed rail to Quebec. Make the train go from Toronto to Ottawa instead.

All these things and FNs haven’t even entered the ring!!

And we cry about productivity, lagging behind critical infrastructure and industries.

We will never be able to achieve climate goals if we keep using flights and cars for a mere 500km of travel. Heck we don’t even have electrified regional rail let alone electrified network of intercity rail. And this is freaking 2026!!!

Just keep the immigration gates open and let it and housing keep the gdp going up — canada (so called developed nation) in a nutshell.

Imagine telling Macdonald that individual provinces or areas could veto trains.

The PQ’s polling numbers seem to keep falling whenever PSPP opens his mouth. I wonder if by the time the election rolls around he’ll have Poilievre’d his party’s fortunes all the way from winning a strong majority to sitting in opposition.

    20. Since I realized we don’t have free trade between provinces, I’ve had this compounding thought that the provinces are the problem with this country.

    21. In that case, build the Ottawa to Toronto portion first until QC smartens up

    22. On god bro, we will send in the LAVs and the Van Doos if you try pulling this shit.

You’re getting the fast trains whether you want them or not.

    23. well, that’s one way to make sure Montreal and Quebec City become even less economically relevant in the coming decades…

Just thinking outside the box here but wouldn’t the rail when it’s finished bring all the increased crime from Toronto into Quebec?
