      >A University of Alberta study has found a link between vaping and impairment to lungs and heart function among young adults.
Michael Stickland, professor of pulmonary medicine at the U of A, is leading the study that looks at people in their early 20s who have been using e-cigarettes or vapes for about three years.
“What we saw was these early indications of impaired lung function and potentially exercise intolerance as well, which suggests that their lungs and hearts are not working as well as you’d expect them to,” explained Stickland.

So ingesting chemical smoke into your lungs *isn’t* good for you. Interesting.

    2. they notice that youth likely to vape are unlikely to exercise (duh). then they say:

„Many of the participants showed normal lung function, but they had greater breathlessness during exercise.

“Twenty-three-year-olds really shouldn’t be breathless. In this case, they did an exercise intensity that was about equivalent to a moderate walk,” said Stickland. “Despite walking at a moderate pace, what you saw was an increased dyspnea in these people.”“

sounds like a nothingburger and like it’s still a harm reduction option. i like how they mention lungs dont mature until 25 but every smoker i ever knew started well before 25.

More or less than smoking, and to what degree?

Or did they not test that because no Canadian researcher who would like to get funded would dare to ask whether vaping is healthier than smoking?

    4. Putting vaporized oil in your lungs is bad. There’s no safe transport medium for whatever intoxicant you want in your brain via your lungs. Just choose a different delivery method. Even the propellant in puffers can cause bronchoconstriction.

    5. Funnily enough, I used to vape a fair bit, but I quit to see if I would get an improvement in my distance running. Oddly enough, it had the opposite effect because it caused me to put on 20lbs slowing me down a ton.

But yeah, I’d assume that vaping is less healthy than not vaping, but I feel like the goal post should be measuring it against smoking cigarettes/tobacco and not against doing nothing.

But I just saw a supporter commercial where Americans were thanking Trump for keeping vaping legal & that apparently there were „studies“ done that proved vaping is 95% more healthy than smoking… You telling me all of that is BS 🤣💀

For the uneducated, this is just an article citing a study.

Yet there is no description of the methods, the study groups (people who vapes compared to a control), how many participants, how were they recruited.

Was there any randomization, were there differences in physical fitness or activity level before the start of the study, were there differences in the frequency of vaping, and most importantly, what are the numbers and statistics?

Would be great if they are least had a link to the actual publication.

Vaping is terrible. Lots of nurses and respiratory therapists in my family that see young people with terrible lungs.

I smoked a pack a day in the military 15 years ago. I ran a mile and a half in 10 minutes. So just exercise if you want to vape or smoke.

I quit smoking 5 years ago though.
