Lousy bill. People should contact MPs. Unfortunately, I can’t link any resources because of the no-advocacy rule…

There’s no such thing as „absolute privacy“ in a society.

What we have is compartmentalized information. Just like the police should not have access to your medical record, your doctor should not have access to your criminal record. And neither of those should have access to your tax report.

But in the end, no information is truly private since it is recorded somewhere, with someone having access to it.

The LPC needs to scale back its desire for police state authoritarianism or their supporters are not going to have many more things to fear monger that the CPC would do if they take power.

If you know anyone who uses WhatsApp, Signal, iMessage (Apple), Telegram, encrypted RCS (texting), and other encrypted apps, then tell them to pay attention. Otherwise tell them to be prepared to pay for a foreign VPN to continue using the service. They may also need to create a foreign IOS/Google account to redownload the apps.

Mandatory suspicionless metadata retention and the weakening of encryption is incompatible with modern messaging services.
