    1. Japan’s real GDP growth over the past 30 years has been lower than that of Greece or Argentina. Companies suppressing labor costs in Japan is a logical response. Increasing personnel expenses in a stagnant market only undermines corporate performance.

Same vibe of: “there aren’t enough workers, nobody wants these jobs anymore” and then somehow the solution is still not “pay people properly.”

it’s all going into Tokyo condos and hostesses bars instead of paying people.

housing is cheap and food is cheap in Japan that’s why

once things start rising as a whole people will demand more, if they rise to that extent

As an employer, I strongly believe the Health Insurance and Pension costs are the biggest cause.

Lets say an employer sets the wage at 500,000 Yen.
Employee gets around 380,000 cash after tax and pension. In addition to 500,000, employer must pay additional 100,000 Yen for employer’s share of the pension, health insurance, labor/unemployment insurance. The total cost will exceed 600,000. True effective tax rate at 37%. Its just becomes stupid at this point. And once salary is increased, the added cost will haunt employers month after month.
