Why do I suspect this would be used as justification for more work hours or some work abuse, instead of giving people their well deserved rest? 🤔

Corporate slave #38825 please return to the production line, you’ve received your allotted 20 minutes of deep sleep rest for the day. While you were asleep the feeding tube malfunctioned and only gave you 3/4 rations. You are grateful to have a job, always remember this.

Never have I wanted more to somehow stop scientific progress on a particular advancement. This has the potential to be even worse than AI is becoming for the average person. And what a sad world! That the potential for eliminating our need for sleep will almost certainly be a bad thing for us.

You bet this will be used against us.

The two income household was marketed as ‚get more money do/buy more stuff‘ now you cannot afford living with two income streams.

You bet this will be marketed with ‚you can husstle more and be richer‘ but it will be normalized and to live a decent life you need to work 16+ hours/day.

    5. I mean…. It could be useful for things like jetlag. Or even a new parent with a child needing to feel alert. But I’d like to think this is something that could be triggered when needed not a normal state.

Hey. You know what works? Sleeping. Why are we trying to subvert what works best naturally?

There’s a great the rest is science podcast episode about this. Basically it’s extremely difficult for humans to achieve the same effect because the body is doing too many things during sleep that we don’t understand. A very interesting watch/listen.

    8. There’s a whole entire Doctor Who episode dedicated to this.

      It did -NOT- end well.

    9. More like techno feudalists‘ agenda on „You don’t get to sleep, peasants“.

Can’t wait for my mandatory 15 minute brain stimulation for my also mandatory 24 hour shift!

There’s literally an entire episode of Doctor Who on why this is a terrible idea

    13. Everyone’s talking about how dystopian this is in a capitalist society whereas my first reaction upon reading this was thinking about how useful this would be on long-haul flights to combat jet lag.

This reminds me of that Night Family episode of Rick & Morty. They treat their sleep versions of themselves like slaves. They complete chores while asleep so they don’t have to do them during the day.

    15. As someone who has a sleep disorder and doesn’t get enough deep sleep, I wonder if this might help me…

Kids these days. When I was a boy we would lie down on a mattress for 5-10 hours, typically overnight, to get rest.

    17. Ah Jaysus, just when you thought the grindcore LinkedIn lunatics couldn’t get any more insufferable…

Do you even wanna Imagine the fresh new hell we’ll have when they pair it with quarterly earnings?

My only rest is sleep and the promise of a eternal one after all this noise is done, ain’t nobody taking away the first one without the other following closely.

      Dystopia.

Imagine having to go on your „sleep simulation break“ at the 24-7 Amazon warehouse at which you’re indentured. You’ve got an IV with „nutrition“ and a catheter and ostomy for waste. You never need to stop, expect for your 15-minute-a-day sleep simulation.
