    1. TBF Google isn’t the best source for public transit. You might try calculating the journey with the DB Navigator App?

    2. This is before you add the db late / missed connection / person on the tracks? Or is Google automatically adding it?

This is everywhere outside larger cities (whose inhabitants never get tired to point out that everything can always be done with public transport, bicycle or car-sharing and that no one needs a personal (technically and legally ready for use at any time) car)

    4. Depends where you are, where you’re trying to go, on what day and at what time. But Google Maps isn’t really the best app for public transport, to be honest.

In any case, you should try looking around a bit. It may be, for example, that if you walk ten minutes to some other bus stop, you can get a much faster connection. I mean… that’s not a guarantee, but there often more and better options that a simple-minded app doesn’t know about.

Care to share your origin and destination and destination with us? Without it this post is pretty worthless.

I live in Weimar and most of the time public transport and car are almost the same, so you definetly live somewhere odd 😃

      Depends on many factors.

For example Erfurt – Leipzig 40 min by train, 2 hours by car.

    8. If you don’t have to stop every minute for 2-3 minute you would be at 30 min as well as by car. Be thankful für what you have. Some European countries don’t have decent public transportation at all…

I moved to east Hessen from my native UK (Essex) back in 2013.

I worked with a bunch of older guys that warned me about „East Germans“.

„They are weird“, “ no sense of humour“, „Always moaning they don’t get treated fairly“.

I can confirm, Thuringia is VERY rural. Scarcely populated and a field lovers dream, the people where less warm than the Hessians but my entire family are blonde, blue eyed so we didn’t see any trouble…just glares when we spoke our family language (English).

3 years ago I moved to Brandenburg (south of Berlin) which was very much DDR.

I can confirm 100% one thing the Thuringians complain about. The level of public spending and money in the former DDR is DRASTICALLY less than in the former west.

Road conditions are MUCH poorer, infrastructure is markedly worse and fewer…yes there’s less people in the east…but east Hessen is FAR from a metropolis. I loved in a Hessen village of maybe 100 houses. We saw 6 buses a day (12 if you include returns) I now live in a similar sized village on a through road to a big town….we see 1 bus a day (it passes twice).

I’d argue it’s probably the same most places. City to city or even land to land is easy enough, but the Bummel bahn through the countryside is just a poor choice

It’s the same where I live, and it’s a big city in NRW. And Google Maps is not to blame. VRR or DB App show the same.

    12. God forbid you would also let us know from where to where you wanted to go and at which time so people actually know what you talk about instead of being intentionally obscure to grab a few karma points.

    13. Driving to work for me is 11 minutes with my car or 24 minutes with my bike. Taking public transportation would be either using two busses for over an hour or walking 12 minutes to the train station, taking a 5 minute train ride and walk another 17 minutes. Also i’d have to leave an hour early from home, so i will make it on time to work.

Another win for the auto industry. All young folks move to big cities where there is good public transport or simply buy cars

    16. Historical_Sail_7831 on

Just get a car, it’s one of the biggest life quality improvements you can get. Unless you live in Berlin or similar, but you’re in Thüringen.

    17. Powerful_Froyo8423 on

Thuringia, I first thought wtf is this, some country in Africa? Are they known for good public transport there? Took me a moment lol

      Spoon found in a kitchen.

It sucks also everywhere. Have same situation, 25 min by car vs 1h20m by bus.
