    1. What benefit is there to the public for this bullshit? Seriously? There is none, only to this blood sucking drunk-boating leech.

A 7.5 GW data centre is an enormous industrial project. People are right to want real scrutiny before the government rubber-stamps it.

“Off grid” doesn’t answer the water, emissions, wildlife, Indigenous consultation, or transparency questions. If it’s genuinely good for the region, it should survive a full environmental and economic assessment. Relying on company assurances alone is not a serious approval process.

    3. Anything O’LEary involve is automatically suspect.

AI just makes it super sus.

Look if Ohio doesn’t want it. We definitely don’t want it here.

I saw an interview with him last week where he essentially spent ten minutes saying “we need to find out where all these lies and misinformation are coming from. What political party is behind it all?” instead of actually answering questions.

Isn’t this twat also building a giant data centre in Utah that’s facing giant pushback?

it should be noted that Kevin O’Leary was not driving his speed boat in Ontario when it hit another boat causing death and injury.

He did not then flee the scene instead of rendering aid, returning home to call his lawyer before contacting the police.
His wife wife totally did not take the blame for him.

i just wanted it to be known that Kevin O’leary did not commit manslaughter while drunkenly driving his boat

„We can’t be dependent on the US for AI“

„My dislike of O’Leary his more important than sovereignty“

    9. badgutfeelingagain on

Amazingly, the data center will produce less hot air than O’Leary’s bloated face.

Irregardless of the merits of a data centre or the affect on the grid or environmental concerns .. before any of that is even looked at I just wouldn’t wanna trust this guy.. he has always come off like a greedy shady scummy person who only cares about $

Put it right next to his cottage where he kills people drunk boating.

I bought an electric lawn mower and a shiny metal straw to save the planet but I’m not sure it’s working where we will build enough data centers that will require the same amount of energy to fuel 20 million cars per year to be used. I forgot I have 10 reusable dollarama bags though so maybe I’m being ridiculous.

Yo, a bunch of my buddies live in GP. We could meet up and do the funniest thing when it opens 😉

Good. Man may as well paint himself orange and stay in Florida.

Data centers economically help in the short term. After a while they just drain resources to no benefit of the people living nearby.

    15. Alert_Ad3999 on

If Kevin „my wife was driving the boat“ O’Leary is for it, I’m against it.

    16. AbilityEqual1891 on

I question about O’Leary’s business acumen since his „The Learning Company“ era and continue to question his acumen to now. This dude can only make half a trade at best. No investment should be touch by him.

    17. GravesStone7 on

This is not skeptical. This is Canadians not wanting to shit where we eat.

The fact that environmental assessments were waived and there will be tax breaks for this are rediculous when you hear about the impact from communities that have had these centers built.

    18. VanCityPhotoNewbie on

Irony that he became a Citizen of the UAE so he could avoid taxes. Go back to your country and make your own data centers there Kevin.

Along with the obligatory hate for Kevin O’Leary,

It is worth discussing if a Quebec data centre has any merits.

      * Data stays in Canada for data sovereignty.
      * Green hydro power in abundance
      * Water use is less of a problem than in drought prone areas

There are many reasons to not want a data center in your backyard, but worth consdering.

    20. Just in co-winky-dinky time to Carney’s little „AI strategy“.

Who’s ready for Carney to have a photo op with Leary and then subsequently have taxpayers bail out a data center that will never exist?

    21. Different-Bag-8217 on

He just comes across like a take take take kind of person. Private profiteering while the public purse pays. Same old same old really. We all pay in the end.

    22. I don’t understand why someone does not propose to build one of these in Chrurchill Falls.

      You have

      – Unlimited, carbon-free electricity

      – Limitless water-free cooling for the data center, due to sub-zero temperatures for 1/2 the year and permafrost available via ground-source-heat-pump-loop the other half

The only gap is likely data transmission cables. Surely, that is an easy logistical gap to overcome? Laying some new fibre is INFINITELY easier than sourcing the kind of electricity that is available at Churchill Falls.

You could also replace my entire analysis above with James Bay, QC, and it would be the same.

TL;DR – The Canadian North + Hydro seem like a match made in heaven for data centers, why isnt it being looked at.

Mr. Wonderful is a piece of shit, walked away from the responsibility of killing those men in that boating „accident“ where alcohol was most definitely not involved.

A man can only pick two of the three: virtue, wealth and power. He went for power and wealth.

    24. Shouldn’t let this parasite do anything in Canada. Especially a Data Center.
