Not sure why they’re even commenting on a random opinion columns.

The shift in spectrum of global conservatism and resulting arm twisting is honestly so strange.

It would make sense if there were ideological convictions as in the past cold war but that’s not even real nowadays.

They’re basically doing the “anything left of MAGA” is now hard left. I imagine a yoonie paid money to get this piece out there in hopes Trump will see it

Honestly, how is Lee a „hard leftist“? Their MAGA logic behind their accusation is just mind boggling.

In Western standards, Lee’s party isn’t even a true „Left“.

Sure, his party advocates for stronger labour rights, 4-day work weeks, emergency subsidies during crisis periods, and stronger social protection for the poor. Those are not necessarily strictly a „Far Left“ movement. In terms of European standards, Lee’s party isn’t even close to being a true Lefty. Maybe MAGA USA doesn’t really care about anyone other than the rich white billionaires. As you know, in America, 10% of the top richest population represents 50% of the spending in the economy – completely wacked.

They also don’t like the fact that Lee doesn’t try to antagonize China because he believes in balancing Korea’s relations with all parties, including China and the United States. Heck, Lee is so anti-US, that he went to the US and promised $350 billion of blackmail money.. oops.. I mean, economic aid to the US to help to set up their factories and make America’s shipbuilding great again.. because the US don’t know how to set up battery and semiconductor factories and don’t know how to build ships.

This is the thanks South Korea gets from the US press and the US government. Lol.

Having read the actual column, it seems like the piece is by a China hawk who is upset that Korea is not as aggressive towards China as they are. It looks like the authors believe Korea is just to be used for their own political agendas. I don’t think even Trump is on board with what they believe.

In either case, labeling Yoon Seokyul a ‚friend‘ of America is completely misunderstanding the political base in Korea and the current mandate that the current admin holds.

It’s overall a badly written piece that seems to shoehorn Korea’s own conservative echo chamber into its own writing.
