This isn’t quite true.

Around half of the Polish soldiers did return to Poland and the rest largely chose to remain abroad (although in some cases – rightly or wrongly – they feared persecution by the communist authorities).

There were actually attempts, in the UK for example, to repatriate veteran Poles, but that largely failed because they didn’t want to return. The Polish government-in-exile also called for Poles *not* to return to communist Poland.
