Feature, not a bug. The TFW program’s purpose is a wage control (POSIWID). Inflation up, wage pressure is up, bosses‘ desire to pay workers what the market is asking… Suddenly we have a surge in temporary foreign workers.
High earning businesses that bring in TFW’s need to face a tax surcharge, or hire Canadian workers. You can’t tell me that these service jobs can’t be filled by Canadians. They simply don’t want to spend any money training them, or paying them a decent wage. Of course those are not the worst ones, the worst use it to bring in family members or others (often as a quasi human traficcing organization) who othewise wouldn’t qualify, and will become a burden on the Canadian taxpayer.
The TFW wage should be double minimum wage . The extra tax revenue off the workers wages would help cover admin costs and make sure taxpayers aren’t subsidizing theses workers. There is no way we need to be paying anything for TFW so a Tim Horton owner can get rich
