The murder of a British teenager has left a family grieving and [triggered unrest in the UK.](https://inews.co.uk/news/police-tracking-british-far-right-agitators-over-nowak-death-riot-fears-4452376?srsltid=AfmBOorLMg_DPiZKRWWi44Ju5-FcVcHD5E_-eMvonSPQ83bxdnJ2bx2U&ico=in-line_link) Now it has also become a flashpoint in growing tensions between the White House and Downing Street, as US Vice President JD Vance blamed the student’s death on the “the mass invasion of migrants”.
Downing Street hit back, calling out “people trying to interfere in our democracy and seeking to stir up division on our streets”.
Henry Nowak, 18, died after being stabbed by Vickrum Digwa, 23, in Southampton in December. Mr Nowak had repeatedly told police officers that he had been stabbed and could not breathe, but was arrested after Digwa falsely claimed Mr Nowak had racially abused him.
Protests broke out in Southampton earlier this week, as Reform leader Nigel Farage called for [“pure cold rage” over the incident](https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2026/jun/05/nigel-farage-reform-uk-brand-pure-cold-rage) and accused officers of “two-tier” policing. Eleven people have been charged with violent disorder.
On Friday, Vance [wrote a lengthy social media](https://x.com/jdvance/status/2062938286977421755?s=46) post blaming Mr Nowak’s murder on mass migration. He claimed that the student “should still be alive today, and he would be if the last few generations of European elites had stood their ground against the politics of self-hatred and the mass invasion of migrants.”

This is Russian-style political interference, aimed at further fracturing our society and leaving us weak. The US are quickly becoming our opponents not just no longer our friends.

Even those in complete agreement with him on British police conduct should know that this is not his real concern.
When ICE agents killed, not just didn’t save, but themselves killed Alex Pretti Vance defended them and slandered Pretti as a domestic terroris, despite multiple videos from multiple angles showing that as a blatant lie. So Vance is clearly not genuinely concerned about the conduct of law enforcement, but has other motives for making this statement.
Division and discord in Europe is the goal. Just as when he goes to Hungary to campaign for Orban. Just as when he goes to Greenland to make speeches to encourage secession.
The pivot away from Europe is not happening. The pivot against it is.
I’m quite baffled by this obsession conservatives have with everything that’s happening elsewhere.
You go on the American or Canadian conservative subs and there’s so many stories posted about Nowak and random crimes from other countries.
Meanwhile there’s more murders in the US in a day than in England in a year
