Some interesting stuff at the end of the article:

Zelensky’s appeal to Putin to enter peace talks was widely interpreted as aimed more at figures within Putin’s inner circle who are growing weary of the conflict than at the unyielding dictator himself.

Intelligence sources suggest that influential powerbrokers close to Putin could eventually push him toward negotiations to freeze the conflict.

As the Ukrainian strikes were launched, Zelensky, 48, responded to Putin’s refusal to negotiate, stating: „Unfortunately, the Russian side is again choosing war – everyone heard today’s response.

„A weak response. He just doesn’t want to end the war. I think many in the world were disappointed by this response. He doesn’t want to change anything and doesn’t want to admit that his war is only pleasing to him and those who are making money from it – they were all very [much] smiling today.

„So, there should be less money in Russia and more pressure on Russia,“ said the Ukrainian leader.

Continuing the war is pretty much Putin’s only move at this point and may be the least humiliating option available to him domestically. Admitting defeat is bad enough on its own. Admitting defeat to Ukraine is inconceivable! A large scale mobilization is coming, probably in the fall.

    3. Zelenskyy just wants to ensure Putin gets the message in the only language he understands.
