„Offensichtlich [Uefa] Sie haben gegen Russland gehandelt, nicht gegen Israel. Wir sind uns voll und ganz bewusst, dass es nicht richtig ist. Letztlich ist es nicht richtig.“ – John O’Shea

Russia were banned as a result of the initial boycott by their opponents in a world cup qualifying group. If Israel’s opponents in these games refused to play then a ban would likely follow for Israel but UEFA won’t do anything if countries will fulfill the fixtures.

Ultimately Sweden, Czechia, and Poland whom had Russia in their 2022 World Cup playoffs all agreed to not play Russia. That’s why they were kicked out.

As of yet, Kosovo, and Austria haven’t said they will boycott the game, or have any intention of doing so.

Who cares about the consequences we must boycott the match. One thing we absolutely cannot do is play on a neutral venue. If we play it must be in Dublin in front of a vocal support- with plenty of support for the Palestinian by all who attend.

i’d rather not qualify as a result of uefa sanctioning a team on the right side of history, than qualifying like this.

fai wont do anything… players need to stand up, but they’re too tied to their english careers to take a stand.

Israel are massacring Palestinians and Lebanese. We cannot prioritise sport over human rights.

I think people underestimate how much hot water Uefa would be in if Ireland didn’t fulfill the fixture, they had the same threats towards Poland regarding playing Russia but folded quickly when it was clear they were going to follow through.

Imagine the optics of Uefa defending an apartheid country which isn’t even in Europe whose leader is wanted for war crimes by the ICC. I can’t imagine that would go down well in many parts of Europe.
