Then once we are out after a few years they’ll want to go Brexit again

    2. PaddyIsBeast on

Yet reform (Brexit party) are apparently going to win the next general election?

    3. Tartan_Samurai on

Its never happening. The terms would be really harsh for re-entry into EU. They’d have to be. We’d be a massive risk for the EU to absorb.

    4. Generallyapathetic92 on

Well that should have been obvious with how narrow the margin was and how bad it’s been.

However it’s all irrelevant because Brexit can’t be reversed now. We left years ago and there’s no way the EU would give us the same deal we had before. I’d prefer to see some polls that actually show if people want to rejoin with all that entails (Euro, Schengen etc) rather than just undoing something that can’t be undone. The only poll I’ve seen on this showed there wasn’t support for rejoining under those conditions but that was a few years ago so may have changed.

    5. Always the story until you ask what people are actually willing to give up to rejoin. Then the tone of the debate shifts drastically.

    6. About time people woke the fuck up and realised they were lied to by multimillionaire Eton schoolboys and the public school conman farage / working class people listening to Jacob Rees fuckin Mogg – makes ya weep

    7. Flat_Revolution5130 on

Who are you asking.? Because the people that think you can walk right back into the EU with out consequences are just naive.

    8. lcm-hcf-maths on

Biggest problem is that the EU will not consider re-entry until the UK has proved it can have political stability. That means a credible party winning in 2029. Reform are not that party. Realistically there’s no chance of re-joining before the mid-2030s at the earliest. You can also kiss goodbye to any of the special deals the UK enjoyed pre-Brexit. It was the biggest piece of inflicted self-harm and the electorate should wise up as to who was to blame..

    9. Wise-Youth2901 on

Well, we can’t. Absolute headache to do it. No govt is seriously going down that path in next decade.

    10. Hot-Remote-4948 on

Reversing Brexit isn’t enough. We need to reverse time to before Brexit and make sure it never happens in the first place.

    11. As much as I genuinely believe the average person wants to rejoin the EU, this is a terrible article from the Independent that tries to imply it’s citing data, including having a link where it says there’s a rise in support.

Except the premise is a throwaway line in a book from John Curtice and the „citation“ is a link to another Independent article where an ex-Tory MP, now Lord says it’s his personal view that we should rejoin the EU.

Whether they’re right or wrong, it’s still bad journalism.

I found interesting to listening to the new statesman talk about a focus group from Makerfield who mostly voted Brexit who kinda just when asked about rejoining the EU they don’t really care either way and said if it helps with the economy fine. It does make me think it isn’t quite the betrayal and red line that so many of parties think it is.

    13. Spamgrenade on

Damage is done. No political party is going to want the job of renegotiating the UK into the EU. Every single issue will become a holy terror of controversy. Brexit showed politicians exactly how dumb the electorate is and they aren’t taking chances anymore.

Maybe when polling is well into the 70%.

    14. I still don’t understand how a massive issue like this could just be left to the masses and only needing 50% + 1 of the votes to be passed. Absolutely bonkers.

    15. Are these the same expert pollsters that told us remain was going to win in 2016?

    16. FewAnybody2739 on

There’s a big difference between wishing Brexit had never happened, and wishing we would rejoin under whatever different terms would be in place this time. What was the question asked?

    17. LegoNinja11 on

Theres a subtle difference between reverse brexit and rejoin Europe. One takes us back to where we were, the other takes us into the Europe that fueled Brexit in the first place.

Having seen the lack of bargaining power we had during Brexit, expect the rejoin to abandon Sterling and the bank of England.

    18. MagicCuboid on

There is no going back to what Britain had. That was the best deal you were ever going to get.

    19. jeanclaudecardboarde on

To those who voted to leave:-
If we were to rejoin the EU tomorrow, what are the brexit benefits that you would miss the most?

    20. shortercrust on

I can’t help notice how some people have a bit of dissonance going in their views on this and the Scottish independence referendum. The people have changed their minds so let’s run it all again vs nope it was a once in a generation decision.

    21. BoringWozniak on

If they announced another referendum the polls numbers would quickly reverse, just like they did when the previous referendum was announced.

    22. Kinitawowi64 on

Why are they still talking in terms of „reversing“ Brexit? Argue to rejoin the European Union, for sure, but rewinding the clock to 2016 and pretending the whole thing didn’t happen is simply not a realistic hope at this point.

    23. howdohendry on

And I’d like David Cameron to be held accountable for starting the whole fucking thing and being allowed to walk away from the shitstorm he created.

    24. CreativeEcon101 on

It’s the same issue all over again. Before Brexit it was the Polish and EU citizens, now it’s non-EU citizens with all politicians going after immigrants blaming them for every problem in this country.

I think first we need to accept that we are a gullible racist nation and society..then maybe we can think about the way forward and solutions to our birthrate decline and how to keep the economy going that benefit us all. I miss the days when the £ was so strong globally, the crash post Brexit no doubt contributed to inflation as well.

    25. Green_Lychee8221 on

Brexit cannot ever be reversed. The UK will never get the same deal it had before. We will always be a bit poorer (in all senses of the word) because of it.

    26. InsideRealistic1129 on

Will the EU want us back though? We might have to wait a few years and probably won’t be allowed in on the same terms we had before. Rejoining the single market might be a step in the right direction.

    27. Waste another 10 years negotiating, putting all government departments into a freeze/backlog because they’re so focused on this. Apparently learned nothing from the last time around.

    28. primeprover on

I think it’s fair to say we want a vote on the final deal, though, as we don’t trust our government

    29. ToucheeCoulee on

From an European union citizen… No thanks… Next time, think before voting. The results of the last elections shows you haven’t learned a thing.

    30. Efficient_Sky5173 on

      Again, British exceptionalism. Never learn.

The other 27 countries in the EU: If the UK can pop out for while, we can too.

    31. Evident_Couple_70 on

To what end? So that Britons decide again in 2040 that Europe is „stealing“ them? The majority of Britons don’t even feel European and a significant number of them hate Europeans.

Do we really need a big country that joins the EU so that it torpedoes it from within? Can you imagine if Hungary were as big in terms of population and economy as the UK?

    32. TheChaoticCrusader on

Curious if the poll is joining with the deal we left with or with the deal we would have to have (like adopting the euro) because i have a feeling that was not asks on the poll . The result would I imagine be diffrent if such was asked

    33. I voted remain and would like to return but im pretty sure the EU want nothing to do with us and i dont blame them.

    34. Yeah this sub also said keir and labor were not going to loose to farage and yet keir is speed running that achievement

    35. billy2bands on

How ironic would it be, if Brexit was reversed before the next election and Farage became the next PM.
      The ultimate Karma…
