They do a lot. Not idea about satellites, but their goddamn stationary antennas and ship mounted ones really do.

The primary investigator who did the research talked with Veritasium and fundamentally there’s some debate as to whether the jamming is an international test of jamming capability or data transmission for the early warning systems or both.

There are reports of Russian satellites interfering with GPS, Galileo and China’s BeiDou since at least 2019 btw.

Here’s a non-pay article from GPS World about it :

It’s noted that the missile early warning satellites could be using the GPS frequency just as a data transmission line. As the US wouldn’t jam the GPS frequencies to block the satellite communications.

    5. I’m tired, boss

EU is already drafting a condemnation letter, when this and much more that ruzzia has already done, is just a confirmation that they are in a war against us. Someone might call it hybrid, a cold war, whatever, it’s still war. Meanwhile we’re debating whether we should apply more sanctions.

    6. So, when is Europe gonna get serious about this and start hybrid warfare back again? Tired of Russia’s shit.

We (Europe) know and its been reported for years. Somehow this is todays news??

We also know the location of their towers.

A sizable donation of money, rockets and coordinates to Ukraine is obviously and once again the most expedient way of handling Russia’s usual bullshit.

The Russians? Gasp! Say it isn’t so! Why would they do th… ah, right. /s

Going out on a limb here, but I’ve got a theory: Russia has publicly stated that these satellites were part of an early warning missile defense system. As a result, they have a valid reason to react with extreme violence if another government decides to jam/interfere with/destroy these satellites as they can claim ’self defence‘ from a pre-emptive strike… so they’re essentially a trap. We’re either forced to leave them to continue jamming, or act and face some sort of ‚defensive‘ consequence from Moscow.

In Star Trek language, this is when you rotate frequencies randomly on both the sending and receiving devices, so you can at least get some signal through…

    12. Jamming GNSS* signals. There’s more than just GPS. And yes, this has been happening since even before February 2022.

    13. Sensitive_Pitch_4456 on

So if they can do this from satellites, that means the consume-conformity mind bending signal is also beamed through satellites….

    14. In other news.

Scientists say Water is wet, they speak German in Germany and Trump will say something stupid as soon as he wakes up.

This was brought to you by Obvious Facts.

For people looking for what technical solutions there are:

Apart from the ground-based ones, ESA also has plans for new Low Earth Orbit constellations. It’s called Celeste (LEO-PNT) and it leverages the much smaller distance to decrease Free-space Path losses which results in 1000x higher power at the receiver, on top of that LEO satellites have very fast geometry meaning the travel in the sky very quickly which allows the receivers to more easily lock out jamming signals based on geometry.

It does not have the accuracy of GNSS / Galileo but we are going to see a hybrid resillient architecture in the future

    16. Yes, they’ve watched Veritasium video and now it is a problem, not while it was happening from what, 2019?

    17. ViruliferousBadger on

They’ve been waging hybrid warfare, GPS and radio jamming included, in eastern Finland for years now.

Civilian planes cannot trust GPS at all there.

No reaction from EU or NATO.
