Der taiwanesische Universitätspräsident fordert Absolventen auf, „sich selbst zu beenden“, wenn sie in ihrer Karriere Schwierigkeiten haben. Nimmt unbezahlten Urlaub

„He urged graduates to manage their time and emotions after entering the workforce, saying that those who fail to do so should ‚quickly end themselves‘ because ‚this world no longer needs your existence.‘ „

Why nowadays people feel so comfortable letting out their intrusive thoughts?

    3. He should be fired, and black balled from ever working in education again.

Yikes. I hope he doesn’t take his own bad advice after going on unpaid leave.

    5. Huh he should be fired.

This is inciting suicide…. Instead of encouraging them to stay strong if they struggle, which most new graduates likely will to some extent, he asked them to end themselves???

      That’s crazy!

The university should be investigated by the ministry of education there.

I’m really starting to wonder what’s wrong with humanity and its seeming urge to destroy itself

The past 10 years feels like a species that’s determined to end its own existence

    7. Sounds like he’s now struggling in his career. Will he now do what he preaches, or is he just another hypocrite?

    8. If you are struggling in your career, please do not end yourself. If you really need motivation to continue living, remember that your very existence annoys the crap out of this very unpleasant man

I love how he uses his “tight” schedule as an excuse for this blunder.

Pardon me, professor, but a lack of planning on YOUR part does not constitute an ~~emergency~~ suicide on MY part.

    10. i wanted to check his original words to make sure this isn’t a farm piece and he apparently was quoted:

      「趕快結束自己,這個世界沒有你存在的必要了」

Nope, pretty clear cut. He dun goofed

These are the same people that’ll have the chutzpah to also get upset at why young people aren’t having kids.

Man I wonder why east Asia has such a demographic crunch with such a healthy mindset towards work hanging out there…

    13. As bizarre as this is, I looked up the school and it’s ranked #38… in Taiwan, a very small country (about the population of NY state).
Like, it’s a real university but not like a really major one. Probably nobody outside of Taiwan would have heard of it if not for this.

      > comments that some interpreted as referring to suicide.

I’m not really sure how else to interpret „this world no longer needs your existence.“

    15. „Chen said he had not been sufficiently careful in his remarks due to a tight schedule“

Sounds like someone is struggling to keep up with the obligations of their job.

Does the world need his existence anymore?

    16. I love Taiwan. Have several friends there. Absolutely wonderful country, people, and culture.

But…. man, the working conditions there are ROUGH. Absolutely insane thing for a person to come out and say. A girl I know there works close to 16 hours per day, 6 days a week – sometimes more – and can barely pay rent and food and such. Insane to say „well, if you can’t take it, just off yourself.“

Dude should be fired and barred from ever working at an educational institution again.

      „some interpreted“??

Is there some other interpretation of this that’s plausible?
