Just bring back nuclear and then gradually replace them with renewables. No need for this nuclear hysteria to go on. Modern reactors can’t meltdown even if you try to do that intentionally…

Sure of course 100%! But not much of a solution if others scale up their use? Like banning gaslamps in some parts of a flat but not others and having no issue with some starting to use more gaslamps?
People are stupid, easily manipulated and short sighted. Many voters in EU lack cognitive ability to fathom the impact of climate change.
They want to drive their diesel now, goddamnit. If 99% of scientists say it is happening they will find 1% on Youtube that says it is not, and vote for someone who promises that he/she will make sure fuel is cheaper.
And yet we all eat meat, drive gasoline guzzling cars, buy cheap shit from across the globe, and travel by plane.
If we as people don’t start acting soon it’ll be too late – if it isn’t already.
Europe by itself can’t do nothing relevant enough to stop climate change. If energy prices are expensive, industry will just move to China, which is still using also a lot of coal.
What we need is to, as fast as possible, move to cheap renewables and get rid of external dependency on gas and oil.
Not because of environment (where our impact is minimal, without US and China), but because of our economy, jobs and energy security.
Even for data centers, assuming we will need a lot of them, we need to start producing cheap energy ASAP. If we are smart, we should make it cheaper than in US.
Low energy prices also help with AC and heating, which quite honestly, we will need a lot. The world climate is clearly showing signs of changing and we need to adapt.
The sad reality is that even though this effort should be left, right and center, it will be largely forgotten in about a weeks time once the temperature goes down again, only for people to start paying attention again once the next heatwave hits.
As long as BP & co can buy windpark contract and refuse to build we are so fucked. Can’t insult anyone so we open contracts with lowest bidder and allow scams to delay the process by 5 years.
We share the same atmosphere, so if other countries are fucking up, they’re fucking up for everyone. Europe going green does very little compared to China going green – We can thank China for being good on that front, they’re doing a lot towards solar cells.

just a single silly example.
the appartment i own is part of a complex of appartments. (close to 20 appartments).
we have a central fuel tank for all of them. if the fuel tank one day gives up we need to replace it with individual electrical heating. (that’s fine).
but we already know the public electric network will not be able to handle an increase of 20 appartments suddenly all using electrical heating.
and for me in my 30’s it’s fine to say „yeah lets pre-invest into getting a new electrical „grid“ so it can be supported. assuming the people who are well into retirement think the same instead and dont just hope they will die long before it becomes an actual problem there is the next issue. this problem is happening in a lot of places these days because not only is heating electrical so are cars . and so there is a ruling in place that they will only do these works if you are actually going to use said electicity. (aka if we do it we have to swap).
Assuming we do all that we would need to put down solar panels , I can only put down 8 solar panels for my own use on the roof (roof has been split per owner in terms of solar panels) . so even if i do so i’ll still probably lack power.
then because i’m a working person i’ll not be home in the day so i’ll need a battery to use the power efficiently…
oh but the battery is barely worth using compared to its cost? oh well.
nobody i know in these 20 appartments has enough „spare“ money or time to currently replace their entire heating system , pay for a new electric grid & then deal with all the paperwork on top.
result.. we are going to keep using this damn thing till it dies on us.
and this is just a very small stupid example. now do this X millions of situations that currently need fuel.
I did some very basic math for myself of „costs“ that i need to do to bring my apartment to current day standards.
electrical 7K. (full rebuild because of new standards)
solar panels . 3-4K
battery . 5K
++++
meanwhile i have months where i barely have 100 euro left… so all i want to know is how the hell am i supposed to save up that amount of money any time soon.
it’s all nice to just say „global warming“ & „we need to go electrical“ . but at the same time life is fucking more expensive then ever so i don’t know where the fuck i’m supposed to find the money to invest in doing so.

The biggest offenders need to stop. China, India, USA etc.. To do that they need renewable technologies that are more cost effective than oil/coal. Everything is about money at the end of the day. We need way more money into developing alternate power sources and materials to replace oil/coal.
Insane claims. This is called GLOBAL warming. ‘Kicking fossil fuel addiction’ in Europe won’t even offset emissions from Iraq that is flaring its natural gas. Iraq ALONE accounted for about 13% of global flaring CO₂ emissions in 2022. and I’m not even touching China

The EU is a non-player when it comes to fossil fuel consumption compared to China, the US, etc. The EU is around 6% of global fossil fuel consumption. The EU shouldn’t be moving faster, the others should be trying to catch up to the EU
Europe is killing us with the fossil fuels especially when comparing the total emissions to china or USA and you realise that the continent produces 4% of the total CO2 output 🙂

Yes we need to ban all fossil fuels asap. All boats and cars already run on batteries and we do not have an energy crisis.
And lets not forget, all those solar panels and wind turbines are a reliable source of energy for the EU. No need for gas and nuclear plants that can provide energy during dark and windless periods.
