      > MIAMI (AP) — The Trump administration has quietly instructed federal prosecutors in Miami to avoid pursuing criminal investigations into Venezuela’s acting President Delcy Rodríguez, a longtime target of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, according to current and former U.S. law enforcement officials, in the latest sign of warming relations between the White House and the oil-rich nation.

      > It’s unclear whether prosecutors had implicated Rodríguez in any crimes or whether investigators were moving toward an indictment. A Justice Department spokesperson said in an email “there was never an investigation into her to shut down.”

      > But DEA records obtained by The Associated Press earlier this year show she consistently surfaced on the radar of federal law enforcement dating to at least 2018, though she has never been criminally charged in the U.S. like several other senior Venezuelan officials.

      > The directive to pause scrutiny into Rodríguez was meant to avoid upsetting the administration’s efforts to stabilize Venezuela after the capture of her predecessor, Nicolás Maduro, among other reasons, the official said. It was not clear whether the White House, which deferred comment to the Justice Department, was involved in the decision. “Everybody has been told to stand down,” one of the former officials said.

      > The former officials, who had been briefed on the development, as well as the current official all spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss internal deliberations.

Because Trump is too stupid to do the work required, his only means of international „negotiation“ is threats via 1) tariffs and 2) prosecutions.

He couldn’t actually negotiate his way out of a wet paper bag. And he admits it constantly by bleating about how shitty Biden and Obama were at negotiating. Why Democrats don’t point at him and tell everybody the tariff/prosecution stuff directly hides his complete lack of foreign diplomacy abilities I’ll never know. He’s incompetent and has always been incompetent.

Putin told her to offer Donald Trump money and if he accepts to go ahead and pay him.

The audacity in thinking that the U.S. can hold another person in another foreign country accountable for the breaking of laws in this country for anything that occurs in their country is the height of stupidity and total arrogance. It is only because of our military power that this is even a thing. What we are doing around the world is nothing more than bullying.

    6. Trump must have gotten what he wanted out of Rodriguez. The bribes have been paid. Time to call off the hounds.

    7. There’s no need to actually bribe her. Trump illegally invaded her country and kidnapped the president.

When she took over the presidency, the threat was clear – fall in line or you’ll be kidnapped too. She’s operating under an explicit threat – obey or die – kind of like terrorists do.

Not the first time the US kept a criminal in power to stabilize a country in hope of turning it into America’s ally.

Remember Japan? US kept the Emperor in power and sweep everything under the rug to protect him.

Oh cool, so the US has firmly moved into full-on corruption where as long as you’re willing to serve the crime boss/president you won’t be prosecuted on a junk case.

Where’s Teddy Roosevelt when you need him?

She’s our friend now, and none of our friends are criminals. Obviously.
