      Hey Canada, Europe here!!

Thank you for your patronage. We are glad to have you amongst our actual trusted allies and respectful trading partners.

We know it sucks having a cucù neighbor; we sincerely hope things get better soon.

      Anyways, enjoy the planes!

Edit: thank you for the award kind stranger!

USA: „We’re kicking you out of the Pentagon working group we’ve had since 1939!“

Canada: *Buys EU planes and drones*

      USA: 😲

And America will blame everyone but Trump and the Republicans for making their brand nuclear waste toxic around the world.

      Give respect to get respect.

And you disrespect the planet when you send a criminal fraud rapist as your representative to the world.

As a Canadian I would like to buy EU on literally anything possible, why would you buy military equipment from a country threatening to annex you.

    5. Good for them! I think Canada and Mexico should have a trade agreement without Trump. He would physically meltdown.

    6. Making America Great Again by…checking notes…kneecapping the American defense contractor industry

    7. This is an easier deal to make than the attack aircraft. One issue Canada has buying military aircraft is NORAD requirements mean they have to be able to log into the US secure data systems. That’s for early warning systems, friend or foe IDs, that kind of thing. Saab says their Grippens can be made compliant with those requirements and the US answer has basically been ‚How in the F are you logging into my secure data systems in order to be compliant‘? That is something I am not sure how to work around but hopefully the Canadian deal makers can solve.

This will be a Canadian built aircraft using European radar and censors. The aircraft itself will be able to log into the US secure data systems which is something a European manufactured aircraft cannot. Boeing basically has the login credentials Saab does not.

    8. To be fair this was always an easy win. This platform uses a Bombardier Global 6500 as the base platform. So domestic manufacturing and supply chain exists already.

Good move Canada. The Swedish planes are specifically designed for combat against Russia. They are also vastly cheaper and probably more reliable than the US super high tech solutions.

    10. All these xenophobic people in the US don’t realize some of the detrimental side effects from their bs, such as nobody wanting to do business in the US or even coming as a tourist that is allowed to be a tourist… I wouldn’t be shocked if hundreds of dollars that used to come from people visiting from other countries has seen a huge sink

The USA really is fkd, they won’t feel or see this for a while but the pace Europe and now Canada are deserting them is awesome to see.

An isolated America is a sitting duck.

So many decades of hard work, sacrifice, and compromise just to be pissed away for one man’s ego.

I mean why would you buy your weapons from a country that threatened to annex you against your will?

This news is about Canada buying the Saab Globaleyes instead of the US AWACS equivalent. It mirrors the EU plan to shift to Saab’s AWACS over the US’s.

I do wonder if this news should be considered a shot across the bow for the upcoming CUSMA negotiations though — Canada still has the Gripens vs F35s card to play during the negotiations although I’m personally a fan of the Gripens and the resulting military industrial benefits and military research developments that could result from that procurement decision. This news reports that Canada has decided to purchase the Saab Globaleyes instead of the US’s AWACS equivalent. This decision mirrors the EU’s plan to transition to Saab’s AWACS over the US’s.

However, I can’t help but wonder if this news should be seen as a warning to the upcoming CUSMA negotiations. While Canada still has the option to use the Gripens versus F35s card during the negotiations, I personally prefer the Gripens. I believe that the procurement of Gripens would lead to significant military industrial benefits and advancements in military research and development.

Probably an easy decision by Canada since it is already using Bombardiers airframe.

If a Corporations has policies and actions that piss me off. I will not buy whatever they sell. Tim Hortons, McDs, Loblaws are some, so why shouldn’t governments do the same on our behalf.

The Americans would control software on planes WE paid for. Forget it.
Honour our commitment, then work with Saab to get Gripen maintenance facilities here in Canada. The Americans have denigrated our brave military, who fought and died with them, so fuck them. Don’t allow the memory of our fallen to be disrespected by a draft dodging felon.

      Thanks Trump.

Lumber prices are through the damn roof and Canada is spending it’s defend billions elsewhere..

      Well done Trump /s

SAAB has a representative in Canada currently giving a press conference. They’re building a GlobalEye hub in Canada to help with jet orders. They were looking for a partner, and found it. They also floated adding Canadian sovereign AI into the jets.

ETA: the representative is the deputy CEO of SAAB.

With the amount of resources Canada has, why do we not make our own?

    21. Greatest foreign policy disaster in US history entirely of it’s own making.

You have a geo-political foe completely hemmed in and stymied and you can attrite their military and embarrass them on the world stage with nothing but some money and already paid for weapons. Not only that but the conflict is convincing your allies to start ramping up their own military production and increasing their defense budgets which will eventually give you the ability to decrease your own and all you gotta do is keep doing what the last guy setup.

      Instead you

      A)Stop all that

B)Start a new war for no reason with a foe who was experiencing major domestic upheaval

C)Piss off all your allies who were rallying to a common cause

D)Convince them to ramp up their own defense industry because they no longer trust yours

The hilarious thing about both Trump presidencies is if he had just done nothing at all or simply sat in the office and deferred to the status quo while setting up all his self dealing he’d likely go down as a relatively inoffensive if not well regarded president. Instead he just can’t help shooting himself and the US in the face.
