I hope this passes. Love is love and everyone should have the right to be recognized for it.
I could see Japan voting against rights because it would be embarrassing to admit that you had them.
I am not well versed, so mind you, this might be my wrong opinion: current laws do not allow same-sex marriage, no matter how you try to approach it. For that to happen, new specific laws need to be put in place. And I am afraid the current cabinet is too busy getting rid of gaijins to even consider mentioning it.
For what it is worth (English translation)
> Article 24. Marriage shall be based only on the mutual consent of both sexes and it shall be maintained through mutual cooperation with the equal rights of husband and wife as a basis.

I guess they will have to interpret “mutual consent of both sexes”.
I still can’t understand why this is such an issue. LGBT issues in Japan are recognized, we have LGBT entertainers on TV, the general public isn’t against it… why is legalizing this in Japan so difficult?
Aside from dinosaur politicians, I mean.
🏳️🌈Love is love!!!❤️
Japan has historically seen sexuality as a very natural thing where bisexuality was assumed to be the default and different sexualities were treated with no much thought, like we treat someone who doesn’t like tomatoes or a blonde vs a black haired person.
I think they’ll quickly bounce back to it as it is ingrained in their cultural identity. They only became homophobic to please the west in and after ww2 because they were afraid of more people dying unless they had them take them seriously
They even mostly have ancient record stating that a man of culture and refined taste wants to know all kinds of beauties and different emotions, personalities, traits, so a man of refined taste would like mens love
