I think this was fine. Autograph hunters are typically quite entitled and don’t always understand personal space. They’re getting something for nothing and most of them are reselling their autographed items. Russell has seen a lot in his years as an actor and is just telling them up front how to behave if they want his time and autographs. Fair play to him.

Autograph vultures aren’t people, so it’s okay. They were there to pretend to be fans, then sell their merch on Ebay for a profit.

So…Here’s the thing of it – and this is something I’ve generally noticed from conventions and meeting celebrities at aftershows or even when out and about in London.

Most of the time as long as you’re respectful, most celebrities and comic book writers and artists are really happy to spend five minutes engaging, signing a bit of paper (I have an old £5, note, signed by Terry Jones stating „here is your five pound note“ which is about the most monty python thing I can imagine him saying) and wishing you well as you both go about your day. Tom Cruise *especially* is phenomenal in public.

      *However*

It’s worth bearing in mind that along with fans, you’ve got a large volume of autograph hunters who do things like – ask him to sign it as maximus for example, and you just know that about 20 minutes later they’re going to be up on ebay. These people are as bad as the papparazi, they ruin the moment for everyone, and they’ve made life impossible for people like Mark Hamill, who doesn’t sign autographs in public anymore, and charges.

If those were the people outside of his hotel, honestly fuck em. they’ve ruined the experience of getting a signed photograph for everyone.

He’s been in Scottish highlands recently filming highlander and the locals have only had good things to say about him.
So I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt here as it was most likely scalpers looking to seek crap he signed.

Sweet Jesus, dude is just trying to live his life, leave him the fuck alone. They are not entitled to his autograph, or anything for that matter. He’s doing them a kindness by even acknowledging their presence. Let the guy live undisturbed.

What he actually said was not unreasonable though, and everyone understood to give him space while he signed things. In essence he said „dont be a dick“ which is… good

How about people leave other people alone when not in a convention or specific event for autographs

He was attending the French open
wtf is wrong with people 🤦‍♂️

What a shitty headline. I know nothing about Crowe really except funny South Park episode but if people would just watch the video he’s hardly belligerent or unreasonable

JFC I can’t believe this had made news and doing the rounds it’s doing. He set clear boundaries and did his thing. These weren’t even fans. These are autograph hunters that sell online.

I can’t blame him. These are not ten year old kids looking for autographs of their heroes. These are like 50 year old men with binders, obsessively seeking autographs from adults for whatever weird reason. What Nathan Lane once called “bloodsuckers” when we encountered a group of them one night in LA.

“As anticipation builds for Gladiator 2…” huh!?! Who the heck wrote this article?

Rusty will go full Gladiator on them.

Nobody wants him to go full Gladiator.

    14. “Listen, I love POOP, and PEE!!! I love it!” – saved you a click – hardly consider this expletive filled?

Crowe did nothing wrong – all he was doing was telling people they need to be decent human beings. Too bad autograph hounds wouldn’t know what that’s like.

I saw a clip from a couple of years ago of Al Pacino in NYC. He’s walking on the street, and these assholes are shoving autograph books in his face, the ones with plastic pockets to put the paper in. It’s obvious they are all going to sell whatever they can get from him.

It broke my heart to see Al be so kind to these morons – he pleaded with them to essentially not shove things in his face, he’ll sign…I don’t remember exactly, but I refuse to watch it again .it just hurts. He was in his 80’s then, he’s a tiny guy anyway…and he’s always so good to his fans. But these people were NOT fans …

    16. People are the worst and he was being totally reasonable lol. He doesn’t have to sign any of your shit you sad losers.

Imagined getting mobbed by autograph hounds everytime you step out a door onto a public street. It would wear on everyone eventually. Knowing they just want an autograph so they can resell and make money off you. Always seems to be worse in Europe

    18. justageekgirl on

Wait. so it’s ok for autograph hounds to harass and push a celebrity, but when the celebrity tells the hounds to back off a little and not be jerks, then the celebrity’s the bad guy?

      unbelievable.

    19. These headlines. Everything these days is about fabricated hysterics. Our youth is so screwed.
