    1. Every time there’s a glimpse of sun Burrow beach is rammed with teenagers all drinking etc.

Is it not time to have lifeguards and gardaí stationed there prior to these shocking incidents rather than in response if they’re not going to do something like limiting the amount of people on the beach or completely closing it.

Even cracking down harder on younger teens drinking would limit these incidents.

    2. Shocking, water is dangerous and should always be respected.

These sort of incidents are far too common around this time of the year, and it won’t be the last the Summer either unfortunately.

I remember growing up, my school was one of the only ones in the area that didn’t do swimming lessons, so I couldn’t swim until I learned as an adult. But it meant I simply never went near deep or dangerous water growing up, whilst others were jumping into quarries which was asking for trouble.

The water there is extremely dangerous.  Dont know if its because of the vicinity of Irelands eye or whatever but even in waist high water you can feel a really strong current at your legs . Poor girl and family

Stupid question but how does this happen like isn’t there 100s of people in the sea that can assist if someone is struggling ?

    5. Unfortunately, there seem to be drownings every time we have hot weather.

So so sad. It stuns me how water safety is not a major thing on our small island.

My heart goes out to her family.

A really really popular beach as soon as there is any kind of warm weather that really should have a Lifeguard from March through to October …..but once again the authorities cheapskate and only June July August …Ditto water testing

Ous state services really are the pits

~Gutted for her family …so easily avoided if the infrastructure was in place

Awful/. Saw a load of trite TikToks about the Garda presence yesterday ruining a good time. Not that they knew to be fair, but that’s fucking awkward.

    9. RIP more people really need to understand to never underestimate the power of water

    10. All the water ripping out from behind Portmarnock has cut a deep channel there – you can see it from space.

It comes out, hits the tide coming off the head a curls back towards Portmarnock.

    11. An average of one person a week drowns in Ireland. I know some drownings are not accidents but that’s a horrific number.

      That’s tragic. Her poor family.

The beach was absolutely jammed with people. It’s mad to think that someone can be washed away and drown without anyone noticing

Her name was Abbie. She was my friend’s daughter. No drink was involved. Her friend tried to save her but lost her in the water. It was a tragic accident. RIP Abbie
