Can we please have fucking midterms before we start this shit?
If she is the Democratic nominee Democrats will lose.
The country just isn’t ready for it, and there are way too many people who will NEVER vote for her.
Go ahead and make her the nominee if you want to lose the country for good, because this is the last chance to save it, assuming it can still be salvaged.
Now is not the time to be taking unnecessary chances! It shouldn’t be that way, but that’s how it is!!!
AOC for Schumer’s Senate seat
No I want her in the senate
I really like AOC, but I think she would be more effective in the Senate.
Plus the right has been working on demonizing her like they did Hillary, and there are a lot of people who won’t vote for her because of that nonsense. I think she would be a good president, but I don’t know if she could win at this point.
I’m all for her running, but not for her becoming the candidate for 2028. Let her positions push Democrats to the left in the same way Bernie did, by spotlighting policies that the people actually want but the establishment refuses to embrace.
After Clinton and Harris both lost to the worst candidate in modern history, it’s clear that the US just isn’t ready to elect a woman, sadly.
We should all be in favor of AOC putting her name in the ring with all other viable candidates. A healthy and robust primary process is necessary. Let’s see who emerges from this process before we advocating which lane a person should keep themselves bound to.
People seem to forget Chuck Schumer is 9 years younger than Bernie Sanders; a man he serves with in the Senate.
He may not retire.
And if Schumer doesn’t retire, then yes, AOC should run for President. Even if he does, I get why she would might want to run. If a Democrat (likely) wins the Presidency, and were to become a two-term President, the worst case scenario for her career (not the country) is that she might not have another clear opportunity until 2036 against an incumbent Democratic Vice President with the establishment clearly behind them.
So yes, the prudent move is to get her name into the mix, get polling, get people talking, and then wait for Schumer’s decision. If he decides to run again, she should run for the Presidency.
NY is not short on great progressives who can take on Schumer. Let her run. If she loses, big deal, she’s young. She’ll have another shot at taking on NY’s other equally garbage senator in 2030, and she’d body her just as bad as she’d body Schumer.
All this nonsense about the U.S. not being ready for a female President.
For god’s sake people. Thatcher became PM of Britain in 1979, and almost 50 years later the U.S. still can’t seem to get over that hump?
If AOC is the dem nominee we will be inaugurating a Republican in 2028. Reddit *loves* her. Mr. and Mrs. America, not even close. She will scare the shit out of them.
She is so unpopular. You guys love losing
Yes please, submit another minority woman candidate for President in a country that hates minorities and women.
It worked so well the last time.
/S
The beatings will continue until morale improves.
As much as I think she is one of the few respectable politicians and as much as I would love to vote for her I think it would be 2016/24 all over again. The men (and many women) in our country just fucking suck.
Please dear god no, I can only imagine the angry racists will come out in droves to support Hitler 2.0
The last 2 times we ran a woman kinda shows America is far to sexist to elect a lady.
I’ll take AOC as the nominee, but I really think people should be rallying behind Ro Khanna. He has the perfect rhetoric to meet the moment and the progressive policies to get us out of this mess. He’s also fresh off of doing everything he can to get the Epstein files out there which is largely a bipartisan win.
She’s always on the road speaking and doing rallies
“Ocasio-Cortez launched a national tour in recent weeks — without calling it one.”
No chance in hell of winning
Political theory here:
– AOC running doesn’t cost you a house seat
– AOC running for president instead of the senate doesn’t cost you a senate seat
– Having six years of experience in the senate won’t make America see her as less of a woman (exhibit HRC) or less of a progressive (exhibit Bernie)
If this is the peak of your name ID and you’re in a D+10 environment why not send it and let the primary sort it out?
The late great John Lewis said that, in Congress, you can be either a show horse or a work horse.
If she runs great, but if she does not get the nomination, DO NOT pull another Bernie, because you’re butthurt, and not vote. Democracy can’t afford that again.
Please no. Find the most milquetoast straight white Christian dude you can. Don’t say the words „hate speech“ or „gun control.“ You can be economic social democrats, given that Republicans have abandoned liberalism, but for the love of God be political liberals. Free speech, free press, free assembly, free religion etc.
Stop with glass ceilings. The Republic itself is at stake.
Now is not a good time to try to break the glass ceiling
Don’t think The United States of Handmaids Tale would elect a female president. Even after Trump 2.0. A male democrat can win sure, but I think it’s too early still for a woman sadly. Would probably just lead to another Trumpist continuing the dystopian MAGA reign.
Never learn
People literally think he is going to run a third term…
Please no. I want to win and not another 4 years of Republicans
And not one bill passed through Congress.
She’s an easy target for the right wing hate machine. I like her but they won’t have any trouble getting those dipshits out to vote against her.
I’ll say it again. I think she has better odds if she goes for Senate, and she could do a ton of good there. But if she wants to go for President, she has my vote.
Another 4 years of a Republican administration it seems
The last four democrats elected president were a southern governor, another southern governor, a first term senator, and a former VP after the incumbent badly bungled a global pandemic.
As a general rule post-watergate, Americans don’t like to elect people with a lot of years in Washington. In 2028, AOC will have had nine years in the House.
Edit: Gretchen Whitmer will be 57 in 2028.
Looks like GOP won again sadly
The DNC will show her as much support as they showed Bernie when he tried to run. Hard to lead from the front when your generals are planning to shoot you in the back.
Please god no – the dems will lose if she is the nominee. She’s too divisive.
I think anyone who thinks they are ready should toss their hat in the ring. I do not see Rep Ocasio-Cortez as having a serious shot at the nomination, although I can see her getting enough support to steer the platform certain ways at the convention. For the general, her support seems to begin and end with those more on the left. Most people I know are generally fairly moderate (as is our district) – left or right – and none have expressed support for her. Without the moderates of both parties and independents, no candidate has a chance on the national stage.
AOC is by far the most intelligent and competent politician by far of any other possible candidate. Godspeed
This ever present narrative that the country isn’t ready for a female president is very, very silly. Hilary won the popular vote by millions of votes and lost the election by deploying resources to the wrong states. Harris took over Biden’s failing re-election campaign and ran a weak campaign because she wasn’t a strong candidate from the start. There’s a reason she didn’t get much support in the 2020 primary. She’s a mediocre candidate who doesn’t have any real convictions and has horrible political instincts. Once she started trying to pivot to the center her campaign completely fell apart and she started tanking in the polls.
AOC on the other hand, whatever you may think of her, is a generational political talent and communicator and somebody with a real political ideology that she can articulate and get people behind. Are there people who wouldn’t vote for her because she’s a woman? I’m sure there are. But those people are probably voting Republican already and she’ll energize the base to turn out which is what actually wins election, not trying to win people in the „center“. DNC consultants fat on donor cash have been pushing that failed theory of politics for years now with disastrous results for everybody but them.
To the people who think AOC makes a risky pick, who do you think is not risky? Gavin Newsome with all of his political baggage? Charisma vacuum and friend of AIPAC Mark Kelly? Let’s get real. At least with AOC there is actual upside if she wins in terms of getting a progressive in office versus the other status quo candidates who will continue to kick the can down the road on important issues and put us right back where we started in 4 years.
Democrats: Field a middle-aged or older white male. It’s not worth the risk.
Another losing proposition. Maybe the DNC is just a false flag for MAGA.
Are we really gonna ruin this again for a third time?
She is the only way forward.
Absolutely zero chance of winning the presidency. The Yanks didn’t vote for a white woman, a black woman and won’t for a hispanic woman.
The only reason I don’t want her to run is because eight years compared to a lifetime in Congress is nothing.
Although she might be running just to gather following and use as political power
Nah the one after this one
Love AOC but we need a straight white guy, America has shown it just isn’t ready for woman or people of color unfortunately.
Please god no. The Dems will lose AGAIN if she runs. You can’t be serious.
