But there’s no debate to be had about the rising number of violent incidents in the last decade and the growing prevalence of hate/domestic extremist groups since Trump entered office.
This far right movement has become more radicalized under Trump, and we must highlight their hypocrisy when they call the kettle black and fail to acknowledge the hate, the vitriol, the maximalist language, and the fearmongering rhetoric they spew and spread on a daily basis.
Trump supporters almost always blame some convenient, shadowy „enemy“ for inciting a „radical leftist“ to violence; dismissing any nuanced point of view that doesn’t validate their grievances while unaware of their own hostility aimed at this common strawman.
A strawman/bogeyman they’ve targeted so often in the past to push an „us vs them“ narrative and lump every American opposite to MAGA in with this vague political threat.
And this binary worldview where „them“ are the savages and „us“ are the victims, or where „them“ are all violent anarchists, radicals and „traitors,“ and „us“ are all morally righteous, superior and law abiding „patriots“—this has far more dangerous implications than say….when figures in the media call Trump an authoritarian.
The same „mainstream media“ that Trump and many of his followers refer to as „the enemy of the people.“
As opposed to all the Pro-Trump mouthpieces who have their culture war grievances, their harmful speech, and their poisonous and partisan discourse amplified by algorithms on platforms like X.
There is rarely room for nuanced discussion, and this type of black or white, all-or-nothing thinking is both tremendously ignorant and a source of radicalization.
These kinds of people have no desire to „turn down the temperature.“ For them, every politically motivated attack becomes a convenient excuse to dial up the hostility, to inflame political and even racial tensions.
It’s more important that they control the narrative so they can scapegoat their political enemies and instinctively blame them for the actions of a single, deranged individual—irrespective of motivations/associations.
These same people have continuously downplayed or ignored countless other incidents in the past involving culprits that have been radicalized by far right conspiracy theories, propaganda, and online extremist networks.
This behavior is encouraged by an unhinged president who is the most divisive and incendiary public figure in recent history.
The same man who broadly characterizes the other party as „domestic terrorists,“ „agitators,“ „thugs,“ „criminals,“ etc…
Who has weaponized the federal government to persecute his political opponents, his critics in the media and anyone who has ever wronged him.
Who is intentionally cruel towards others—even the deceased.
Who resorts to dehumanizing, insulting and mocking others. Who bullies his political foes and naysayers.
Who has been federalizing state troops and mobilizing trigger happy, masked goon squads to occupy cities around the country where they are terrorizing the public, murdering civilians, violating rights and suspending civil liberties with no accountability.
The same president who campaigned on „no new wars,“ only to threaten to commit egregious crimes against another population and destroy their civilization because the war that HE started hasn’t been going his way.
And no matter the facts, violence is so often politicized by Trump and his supporters and used to sell a narrative that portrays *them* as the victims.
A partisan narrative that applauds Trump’s resilience in the face of so much hatred and „political persecution.“
All these would-be assassins don’t even get past the first line of defence. There has to be a better way
