The standard issue with this kind of map is that it uses the administrative borders of the city, instead of the shape of the actual urban sprawl, which would make much more sense

That’s not Oslo though thats the municipality. The city itself is just the 15 districts + city centre

When I think of Berlin I imagine it much smaller, like Madrid sized

    4. What is the criteria for making the list? There are lots of cities with bigger surface area than listed here… Capitals? Nope… Biggest populations? Nope… EU members? Nope…

And Bucharest? Much bigger than Budapest!

Brother we did the Hungarians dirty, who is the bigger power now. Bucharest power!!!

This is nonsense. Area as a measure of city size is meaningless.

By this metric only 6 European capitals would be larger than Leeds

That’s a map of Greater London which is essentially a county comprising two cities (City of London, and City of Westminster) alongside the 32 boroughs. In the UK, Greater London as pictured is more comparable to a county such as Leicestershire. The actual City of London is the smallest in the UK.

    9. This looks like just the administrative limit for some… and metropolitan for others.

      I present to you:

      Gardeleben (germany)

      633m²
      ~22000 people

Its the third biggest City in germany, by size.

    11. Not really interesting chart, because size of the municipal limits doesn’t really say much. Paris for instance is huge. Would be more interesting if it compared the sizes of the metropolitan areas.

    12. That shape of Moscow is outdated, thee city has added large new territory on the southwest. The area is correct tho

    13. Checked Paris, and now we now this is not well researched. And I think there are non-capital cities that are bigger than some of the listed, the title doesn’t mention „capitals“.

      Moscow is much bigger

      There’s a map of old Moscow,with the square of around ≈1100 km2

The borders of Greater London were set over 60 years ago, the entire London metropolitian area extends well beyond the official boundary.
