„Das Kind wurde in Japan geboren und kann nur Japanisch. Als es gezwungen wurde, nach Indien zurückzukehren, das für ihn nichts anderes als ein fremdes Land ist, weint es. Wir haben uns immer an die Regeln Japans gehalten, hart gearbeitet und sogar ein Haus gekauft. Doch plötzlich wird uns gesagt, dass wir zurückgehen sollen – ist das menschlich?“

    1. I met a young teenage boy while visiting Shirakawa Go whose parents were from The Philippines but he could not speak English or Tagalog, just Japanese. He was working as a server in a small restaurant. I guess he’ll be caught up in this — all the best to all involved.

Why they expect a xenophobic country to know what is humane and inhumane?

While this is horrible, why the father didn’t get permanent residency or naturalization is beyond me. 30 years in Japan.

Was he simply not able to get PR? Didn’t meet the conditions? If yes, then something is broken with that system

    4. Japan: „integrate or get out“

Also Japan: „actually just get out anyway“

30 years but not a PR? It seems very unusual case. Could someone please elaborate more about the news? Did he explain why 30 years in jp and he did not apply for a PR? Usually it is more than enough to get a PR . 30 years, pay taxes, following rules etc. Unless the person with a criminal record then it is impossible .

This is genuinely awful. I don’t know why they don’t have PR, but I feel like there should be some sort of grace extended in these situations. They’ve been here for so long, if they’ve been paying taxes and doing everything right, there’s no reason to deport them

    7. They have integrated into Japanese society, and yet are still being deported?

      Conservatism is a mental illness

The words used are “go back” but in actuality it means “go away”

    9. Didn’t they do this to a Filipino kid born and raised in Japan a few years ago??

Conservatives are mentally ill and evil, everywhere. Not a spec of humanity. Just hate. So gross

    11. In order to apply PR or Naturalization, need at least 3-5 years valid visa. Maybe they didn’t get to have a chance to obtain more than a year valid visa. Even for me I have lived more than 5 years but I still haven’t got more than a year work visa every renewal. So don’t judge too quickly about why they don’t apply for PR or Naturalization.

Japan and Middle East is a NO as they don’t give you residency so easy

What’s weird is all the resources going to deport people like this when their streets are covered with anti-social criminals from third world countries. Go down the wrong street in Tokyo and you’ll forget this is a Japanese majority country.

I’ve lived in Japan since 2001 for a total of 17 years and decided to pull the plug on my BMV and close my company after seeing numerous stories of renewals being denied and PR applications being more strictly scrutinized. My business has advised and supported over 20 new Japanese businesses to start up over the past 4 years. It has been growing for the past 4 years but not yet at a stage where I can immediately meet the new requirements this year let alone by 2028. The instability and uncertainty of continuous 1 year renewals and severity of scrutiny for PR has led me to decide to give up on Japan.

That’s what he should have understood from Japanese cultural identity. A gaijin will always be a gaijin

They will kick out as many immigrants as possible, not change policies to fix Japanese people’s lives and less kids will continue to be born, and when there are no one to work particular jobs, they will shrug incessantly

Japan is not expat friendly. They might act kind up front, but they don’t want people there „messing up“ their culture and blood. When are people going to figure this out? It’s a nice place to visit – but I wouldn’t live there. I’d imagine it would be so lonely.

I hope the government will change their mind because the negative impact on them will be irreversible

    20. I would just ignore the collective hive mind mentality it doesn’t matter what your appearance looks like when we all know what a Flock mentality can do against outsiders

ignore pressure → problem grows → sharp bureaucratic correction → unintended consequences.

Very similar to the bubble era banks spike interest rates from 2 to 6 percent instantly and a result got the mess they have today.

    22. LordRaglan1854 on

And what problem does kicking these people out solve exactly?

      Certainly not depopulation…

    23. Hooponopono73 on

This breaks my heart. Those people did everything to integrate and assimilate into Japanese society, which is super impressive and highly commendable. It is so very wrong that Japan kicked them out. How can we advocate to bring this family back to Japan?
