I feel like this is the complete opposite end of the spectrum to Liz ‚The Blob is out to get me‘ Truss’s mania.
I’m often reminded decent people can exist in echo chambers and be manipulated into evil causes (such as the “reform” movement).
I know nothing of that Reform councillor; but in a moment of honesty she admitted a discomfort in voting for something she doesn’t understand. That level of honesty is far better than just following marching orders or making something up. Another councillor then started shouting her down – it’s not a good look.
There is nothing worse than leaders who fake knowledge they don’t have and make decisions with real implications without care.
Maybe she shouldn’t have run then???
The comments just casually giving her a pass, you’d get fired in a heart beat if you stood on a podium and did this at your job.

FFS – any other job you need to display basic skills relevant to the job at interview stage. Running for councillor should be the same, no matter the political persuasion, else you’re wasting tax payers money.
The people who we are told will GET THINGS DUN will do sod all except funnel money into the hands of the billionaire class. Being qualified or component is not a requirement for Reform.
I admire her balls. To publicly state that she doesn’t know what terms mean that google could have answered immediately.
On one hand she’s open and honest. Yet naive and not proactive on the other. She had plenty of time to research.

How do you have time to stand to be a candidate but not to google what a standing order is or have someone explain the very basics of the constitution? I can understand being a bit unfamiliar with the details of a new job but that is ridiculous.
She the same one who posted a picture of herself outside the Palace of Westminster captioned „time to get to work“ and had to be told by the comments that she’s not actually an MP?
It’s worth watching the video, Tanisha Bramwell gave a very strong response, „it’s your job to educate yourself“!
You know, I always knew that far-right politics was self-defeating, but I never thought I’d see them literally melt under their own “success”, resigning, firings and multiple MULTIPLE members either not knowing what their job is or feeling unfulfilled and bored.
Same with our council now in St Helens – Reform led, not a fucking clue what they are doing and now implementing policy advisors at 52K a year – just one over the 4 year term is 200k+. Where is that money coming from? SEND cuts, raised council tax, absolute load of fucking charlatans and wasters the lot of them
If they were honest they would resign, learn about the role in the opposition and try again next election.
No excuses really, council meetings are recorded and open to the public which is how we’re seeing this one

If you go for any job anywhere you must be able to demonstrate strategy and understanding of the roll.
Even fast food and service jobs require this.

The honesty is refreshing but how can you put yourself forward for a job without understanding the basics or how things work? Especially when it can have a wider impact on general public?
This whole Reform movement is really sad and destructive for everyone.
Reform voters are all about unearned confidence over competence in their elected representatives, so I can only assume her saying this is actually positive. She’s “keeping it real” or smashing the UK swamp or something.

I’ve seen loads of comments along the lines of „well isn’t she brave for saying it how it is/she couldn’t know how to do it before getting the job“ and it’s just insane that people are willing to give this a pass.
In any other job you do some research before you apply, you check that you can actually do the job. if you apply, and you think you have a shortcoming, you catch up. These new councilors were given this information and chose not to engage with it. that’s not brave/honest, it’s pigheaded.
Yes no one knows how to be a politician until they become one, but someone wanting to do so should probably have the wherewithal do look into it and pay attention so that they don’t have to stand up and say „I have no clue what I’m doing“.
There is formal training for all Councillors, provided by Councils. All new Councillors will be provided with requisite training, which includes their legal obligations, as well as Council policies, procedures and expectations. Oh yes, the Councillors will learn what Councils actually do.
Not that Councillors seem to keep their training in their brains in most cases.

Just so it’s clear exactly what she doesn’t understand:

This isn’t complicated intricate procedure, this is extremely basic terminology – „amendment“ isn’t even a politically specific term. She’s had over 2 weeks to at least look up a glossary, never mind read the constitution. This is Dominic Raab’s „I haven’t read the Good Friday Agreement“ all over again, as an experiment I read the GFA and it took me 45 minutes so I’ll see how long it takes me to read Kirklees Council’s [constitution](https://www.kirklees.gov.uk/beta/your-council/the-constitution.aspx).
Edit: okay so I lost the will to live after the first 70 pages, that took me about 30 minutes and the whole thing is 460 pages, based on that it would take about 3.5 hours to read the whole thing – that’s a lot in one go but if you spent half an hour a day on it you could have it done in a week.
Even if you concede that 2 weeks is not a lot of time she’s still known she was a candidate for several months and could have taken the time to consult at least some of the constitution and/or a dictionary at any point during that period.
Literally admitting she doesn’t understand *any* aspect of the job and not only that, but assuming it’s the case for everyone and thus ‚we shouldn’t vote on this‘????
Bloody hell. It’s like she literally got elected in order to block anything from being able to get done. This is the *opposite* to the kind of person that should have run at all. Why did she??
