If his approval rating isn’t less than 50% with republicans, why is this surprising people?

Because no one votes.
Also, GOP has closed primaries in KY. That’s a sure way to weed out any non-conformists.
Edit: Wow, I’ve never gotten an award before. I want to thank my parents for always believing in me and my dog for standing by me even when I was really sick a few weeks ago.

I don’t think this is his lowest approval rating yet. I feel like the best is still to come, and he’ll manage to set new anti-records. And even then, he’ll still be saying he’s the best

Is it because the 35% of the people who still approve make up majority of the republican party?

Does Kentucky have a closed primary? Not that many Democrats would vote for Massie. But to be petty, I would if I were able. But just in the primary, to be clear.

How is this even a question?
Trump voters are those in the GOP who actually understand that those who vote in the primary determine who runs for their party in the general election. So they show up to vote in the GOP primary for whoever Trump selects, knowing full well that the rest of their party members will turn up in November to vote for who they chose in the primary (whether those general election voters like it or not).
Many_Easy_V2 on
Because they are primary elections with only Republicans voting.
The real test of this dipshit will be when voters from all parties vote.

Kings are kings. They don’t need to be popular. They just need to be able to draw 2 billion at a time from the treasury, with no allowed accountability, to pay their guards. Billions in taxes buys immense loyalty from vigilantes who storm capitals and kill political rivals. Trump is inhumane, human shaped garbage. The GOP is the receptacle. Take out the trash.

His approval rating is only low when you include the entire potential voters. Among republicans he’s still extremely popular – the party is solidly a personality cult today. What’s changed is that he’s now losing a majority of independents as well, but that doesn’t impact him until the midterms. Until then, there is no one to his right that will criticize him.

Reframe your understanding of what is actually going on. Trump is ruining the US government with their full support. Who were the last Americans who wanted this?
They don’t care about Trump’s corruption because the civil war never ended for them. „Owning the libs“ is still just South vs North bullshit. Why do you think they want all of those immigrant detention centers? Do you think they won’t be putting those people to work? What’s the works for that again?

Yeah it’s worrying. BUT remember, it was a closed primary in Kentucky and the voters were largely Boomer die-hard republicans. If Trump’s hold on the GOP is cracking, it’s with younger voters and independents who took a chance on Trump in ’24.
At least that’s what I’m telling myself.

There is no mystery here — Trump rules in primary contests, which are lower turnout, base-driven affairs. The 37% of people who still approve of the job he’s doing? That’s who’s voting, and it’s why every primary season we talk about Trump’s grip over the party, and every midterm we talk about how he’s kryptonite. I’m sure he still got a lil dopamine rush knowing that people did exactly what he told them to again.

Prior to a specific point in 2016, the wider GOP were vehemently anti-Trump. You can find videos of Ted Cruz, Lindsay Graham, Mitch McConnell, and others loudly decrying him.
So, what happened?
Well, maybe it was the Russian military hack of the GOP & DNC email servers as a part of Project Lakhta.
The DNC emails were largely then released to the public in an attempt to embarrass the DNC and their candidate Hillary Clinton. Nothing embarrassing was found, however. It was all basically above board run of the mill political discussions, opposition research, funding, policy, that kind of thing.
The GOP emails… weren’t released at all. However, all of a sudden, seemingly overnight, every major GOP politician started fawning over Trump.
It’s almost as if- ***IF***, hear me out here, there was some outside party that desperately wanted Trump in office that somehow had compromising information on the GOP and was using it to blackmail them into compliance.
