Sports gambling online is illegal in most states. I’m legit baffled that these scum of the earth prediction markets are allowed by toeing around loopholes

    2. ‘Prediction market’ is such a stupid term, just playing along with their facade. Call it real world gambling or something like that.

It’s about time someone shut these places down. They’ve basically been running online betting setups under a different name, so it’s crazy they were even allowed to operate this long. Hopefully, the rest of the country catches on and does the same.

      > The prohibition extends to services supporting prediction markets, like virtual private networks, that could allow consumers to disguise their location and get around the ban.

Wait, it bans VPN’s, also? That’s a bad idea that they’ve tried before. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2025/11/lawmakers-want-ban-vpns-and-they-have-no-idea-what-theyre-doing

Edit: The language doesn’t appear to ban all VPNs. It’s line 82.14 in https://www.revisor.mn.gov/bills/94/2026/0/SF/4760/versions/latest/:

      > [It’s a felony if a person, as part of a business,] provides supportive services to a prediction market or consumer knowing that the
services will be used to identify a consumer’s location, transfer money, or make or process
payments for the purpose of allowing consumers to make wagers or to settle wagers made
by consumers in violation of this section.

That sounds like they have to know that the consumer is making „wagers“.

    5. Please do this in every state. Ban this despicable gambling. It ruins lives.

    6. If we want a stock market based of reality instead of a bubble then futures trading should be banned and any stock purchases should be held for an amount of time proportional to the investment. So the more you buy, either by value, proportionally or numerically then the longer you need to hold it. A minimum of four weeks.

    7. Based Minnesota. We shouldn’t be injecting gambling into every aspect of life. Sports betting apps are already bad enough of an addiction that we shouldn’t have let happen in the first place.

    8. I predict the trump administration will demand zoning laws that allow casinos in every state likely adjacent schools, churches and within national parks.

Yeah my state AG tried. It didn’t last long before courts struck it down due to federal law over “futures markets” taking precedence.

    10. Awesome, they shouldn’t be allowed. I don’t even like casinos, but it’s not our land and we don’t have a say on what happens.

Continually proud to be a Minnesotan. Forever reaffirmed for being the only state to oppose Reagan

These news made me $200 on polymarket – but now I can’t access it. Live in Minnesota.

I think „prediction markets“ was hilarious to begin with 😂

All bets, gambles, stock trades are just calculated risks – why shouldn’t the people be trusted with it if the banks do it all the time?
