excess heat could be good for some cities some of the time, providing thermal energy that could generate some power or be used to heat other surrounding facilities….. but instead the industry is taking the fastest/laziest/lowest cost approach to all this and just dumping all that extra heat in the atmosphere for us to all enjoy.
Biggest ones ever are being built in areas that already have excess heat and a lack of water.
Too bad they aren’t using the waste heat for district heating. If the government was serious about minimizing impact, they would require dry cooling (closed loop) and heat recovery as part of any new construction project.
Aren’t they using the heat in some countries in Europe for greenhouses? Bury the data centers and put a grow house on top. It seems like a no-brainer to me to capture and reuse the waste
