    1. **Trump and RFK Jr. Boosted This Unproven Autism Drug. Some Parents Listened**

The FDA recently declined to endorse leucovorin for autism, citing a lack of strong evidence for it.

Last September, President Donald Trump, Robert F. Kennedy Jr, and other health officials declared they had uncovered a new, potentially groundbreaking treatment for autism spectrum disorder (ASD): the existing medication leucovorin. A study out today shows that plenty of families believed them.

Researchers at the University of California, San Diego examined nationwide prescription trends of the drug last year. The prescription rate of leucovorin among children with autism skyrocketed by late 2025, particularly following [the September announcement](https://gizmodo.com/trump-and-rfk-jr-blame-tylenol-for-autism-in-new-report-but-experts-push-back-2000662054), they found. The results indicate that Trump’s endorsement had significant influence on these families, the researchers say, despite the lack of data supporting the drug’s effectiveness.

    2. Is this something they wash down with bleach before or after the horse wormer??

This is just b9 (folate) in a form that „skips“ an enzymatic process blocked by certain chemotherapy drugs (like methotrexate)

No idea about it as a therapy for ASD..

Edit: if only they would decide to invest more into scientific research even just for something like this just to be able to prove our disprove the effects of the drug on asd.. Instead of making serious comments like this

    4. I mean, if it actually works, that would be a huge win. But it coming from them? I have my doubts.

    5. I hate how these tools are muddying the waters for actual research into helping people with asd.

There is an entire industry build around quack „cures“ that is tied intimately into the anti vaccine and alternative medicine culture.

They exist to siphon funds from misinformed, desperate parents who want a „cure“.

These people get kids hurt and killed all the time. The deathtoll of vulnerable children from anti vaccine sentiment alone is as tragic as it is preventable.

Spreading medical disinformation as a doctor should be a crime and result in losing licensure and doing it as a layperson should be even worse.

These people cause so much misery to vulnerable individuals and their families. The combination of absolute parental rights, the American need for action, the incentive to grift on people’s hope, and the children’s inability to advocate for themselves is a recipe for an abuse machine of previously unimaginable proportions.

Parenting a child with asd is hard, but according to adults with asd who can advocate, medically approved therapy and just embracing your kids interests and nurturing them as they are is the best way help them thrive and be happy.

People with asd arn’t broken. Its just a different way of interacting with the world.

    6. I have to wonder if Trump, Kennedy, et al, had stock in the company that made leucovorin. This is the ONE AND ONLY reason these people would recommend anything: To benefit themselves. They care NOTHING for who it effects or what people have to pay for it or whether it works or not.

      >This double-blind, placebo-controlled RCT aimed to compare changes in Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS) scores in children with ASD aged 2-10 years, among folinic acid (2 mg/kg/day, maximum of 50 mg/day) and placebo groups at 24 weeks, in comparison with baseline…

      >The change in CARS score was higher in the folinic acid group (3.6 ± 0.8) compared to the placebo group (2.4 ± 0.7, p < 0.001). Changes in CBCL total score and CBCL internalizing score were also better in the folinic acid group (19.7 ± 9.5 vs. 12.6 ± 8.4 and 15.4 ± 7.8 vs. 8.5 ± 5.7, p < 0.001 for both).

A small change, but since folinic acid is a well-vetted generic and has a clear mechanistic connection to neural development, it seems like it’s worth further studies

They want to have a cause that is anything but their own genetic contributions or age (paternal age included) or impact their business interests. Acceptable causes: Vaccines, Women’s actions while pregnant. Unacceptable causes: Genetics, parental age, environemental pollutants from their corporate funders

    9. And those likely were the same idiots who also took ivermectin during the pandemic.

It’s always a pseudo-science grift with these people and they don’t care who they hurt.

    11. As a rule, no one should believe any claims this administration makes. It’s become quite clear that public health is waaaaay down the list unless it’s about profit.

There’ll be lots of anecdotal data now. It’s the best experiment there is, a natural one!
