“The final extraordinary aspect of the outbreak is that it is caused by the uncommon Bundibugyo strain of Ebola virus, which has no clinically validated treatments or vaccines. This is only the third Ebola outbreak caused by Bundibugyo, which has had fatality rates of 25–50 percent.”

That is not a good sign…I hope the virus is contained and (sadly) ‘burns out’ quickly.

A 50% mortality ratio, and a US Sec of Health who swims in raw sewage and eats decomposing animal carcasses. Sounds like a helluva plot for a movie.

What place on the web is better for world wide disease outbreaks? I only use Reddit as my outside connection to the web. Well, other than the Google research I need to do.

    4. Cool. So, we’ve got Ebola and hantavirus. What’s next, chikungunya? Dengue?

„The [U.S. Agency for International Development](https://www.nytimes.com/2026/04/21/us/politics/usaid-former-employees.html) has played a major role in containing previous outbreaks, but last year it was shuttered by the Trump administration. It is unclear how that might have affected the response to this outbreak. The administration also cut funding for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the leading public health agency in the country. It also [withdrew](https://www.nytimes.com/2026/01/22/us/politics/united-states-withdraws-world-health-organization.html) in January from the W.H.O.“ From [NYTimes](https://www.nytimes.com/2026/05/17/world/africa/ebola-congo-uganda-who-public-health-emergency.html) . I thought USA left WHO? If we don’t acknowledge it…it doesn’t exist right?

I’m supposed to go to a Congo World Cup match next month. Not sure how concerned I need to be about it. It may even get canceled with travel restrictions going into place.

Quick dismantle the CDD and illegally fire everyone then declare that everything is ok!

Cannot fucking believe that after how the trump administration has been treating Germany and most recently threatening to withdraw US troops that we said „yeah sure, please send your Ebola infected citizens HERE“. FML

Better restrict travel because the CDC couldn’t handle an actual real Ebola epidemic. What do you expect when you defund the CDC. Typical BS failed policies.

    13. We have the beet admin in charge right now in the US. Don’t worry guys, you won’t have to wear masks or wash your hands or deal with any lock downs. Just get used to friends and family dying…maybe
