Typical Trump moves to put pressures on Canada ahead of the trade negotiations and probably not the last one. They always use the same tactic.

Davos speech basically given as justification for this. It clearly touched a nerve.
Most people wouldn’t have heard of this board but it’s been around since WW2.
Gotta wonder if this is the start of further pullback from the US on partnerships like NORAD or if it’s their deranged way to send a message.

What I think they mean is that Canada hasn’t spent enough on American defence technology.
We’re certainly spending more than we used to.

From the article;
“The board is an important symbol of the bilateral relationship between the two countries, said Imran Bayoumi, a former U.S. defence adviser now with the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security, a Washington think-tank.
„Cancelling it is a needless provocation that sends the wrong message to Ottawa and other U.S. allies,“ Bayoumi told CBC News.”

„Colby’s posts implicitly lay some blame for the U.S. move on Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s frequent statements about making alliances with countries other than the U.S., in the wake of U.S. President Donald Trump’s trade war and his calls for making Canada the 51st state.“
So essentially, they are leaving because we didn’t kow-tow to them after they insulted us and we decided to diversify our partners?

F$&k Trump and his endless economic warfare tactics designed to break Canada. History will disclose him as the worst and most corrupt and morally bankrupt president ever! 🇨🇦 💪

Typical abuser. Pummels us on numerous items, then is upset that we don’t continue to let us be pummeled. If only we had not moved on, they would have bargained more fairly.
Let the US rot with their naked Emperor. You can’t bargain with a mad man and his sycophants.

Great. Could not care less what Trump’s America does. We don’t need anything from them. Except maybe for them to go away.

Less defence integration with the country most likely to violate our sovereignty sounds like a win.

Let’s get some gear from the most powerful military today and that is Ukraine. The best drones come from Fire point, we could participate in FP-5, 7 and 9. We need our own missile range and since we already had one in the 80’s we can restart it in Churchill. Ukraine is also developing ballistic missile defense. The Churchill range would be great for that. We also need 100 000 FPV operators, what a great opportunity to get our gamers involved. imo we should not FAFO with Magastan and move the capital up north. Like the time we moved from Kingston to Ottawa. As long as the pedo carries the football, no one is safe.

On a practical, day-to-day level – what does this mean for Canadian defense? Can we ignore this? Or just say we agree, that’s fine. Also where are the truckers now, when we need them to stand up to real fascists? Blockade the bridges!

Fuck these guys.
Honestly, I’m so over this bullshit from the U.S.
The Trump administration has done an insane amount of damage in 18 months, undoing alliances & destroying partnerships.
I honestly don’t see the U.S. recovering from this damage. They’ll never be trusted again.
At this point, I’d entirely be in favor of Canada joining the EU.

I really hope behind closed doors we have the policy of viewing the US as an actively belligerant neighbor that cannot be trusted.
It would obviously be lunacy to antagonize them publicly. There’s really no telling what they would do, but I am very much hoping we’re preparing behind closed doors.
What we should really do is work on acquiring nuclear weapons. Lest we become another Ukraine. This is very much my fear.

Make America Alone. All they’re interested in is imposing their views to their historical allies. I’m sad for Americans who have a different view of the world, but it’s up to them, not to us, to change their government. In the meantime, Canada will continue to build alliances with reasonable partners.

I guess in this case, words speak louder than actions.
Despite a large increase in military spending, Carney hurt Trump’s feelings at Davos.
I like the way the Chinese handled this. They „honoured“ Trump by taking him to a sacred grove of 300 year old trees…they did this to show that China has been around longer than the US and will endure. Trump’s only concern was how many other leaders got to see it.
I think Carney realized things were pointless with this administration late last year and, we can try to work out what we can but it won’t be much.

Balkanize the USA. The Great Satan is a title they earned and one they’ve worked hard to keep. The rest of the world should take of from them by force. Break them up into a few dozen mini satans.

Good, maybe we should threaten to pull out of NORAD too just to see how the child king acts.

Hopefully the rest of the world can see that if the U.S. won’t stand with its neighbour on defense matters on its *own continent*, it surely won’t stand elsewhere.
Take the U.S. at their word, and quit relying on them as much as possible (much harder for us though, truth be told).
