The US is demanding indefinite military access and veto power over major investments in Greenland during secret talks with Denmark. Greenlandic officials are alarmed by the scope of these demands, which include a ‚forever clause‘ ensuring American troops remain even if the island gains independence.

„the United States is pushing for a significantly expanded role in Greenland, including indefinite military access, veto power over major investments, and cooperation on natural resources“

Considering the US is basically the only military defense in the region, I don’t see why they wouldn’t demand this. if Denmark wants to invest as much in NATO defense spending, they are more than welcome to. But they will not, because Europeans defending their own territory isn’t an option when American taxpayers can do it instead.

Also the Euro-centric downvoters are welcome to reply to me, but we all know you’re wrong.

The US having more military bases in Greenland is a good thing for the entire western world. If Trump wasn’t such an asshat and tried to have these conversations versus just saying we might invade, we’d be much further in this.

The secret talks can’t that secret if word has been let out about what the secret talks are about and which direction they are going.

They should be told no. Be brave and honest with US. Remember what happened to native Americans.

This is bullshit. The ancestors of Greenlanders went through blood and tears and hardship to settle there. Their descendents today are no less hardy, are educated and strong, and most want to keep the land they claimed with hardship.

Who the hell are the US to try and walk in? Really, this isn’t even new, Truman tried to buy Greenland from Denmark. „National Security“, I am so sick of this pathetic excuse.

    7. Denmark has little choice, they will eventually cave to USA demands.

On a News debate long ago, a geopolitical expert said that only 3 nations are truly independent of US influence, rest all tow the US line and capitulate with exceptions of Russia, China, India and to some extent France.

When guest start making demands then it’s time to politely show them the door.

    9. It would be like if an Ukrainian government accepted to give the Russian enhanced basing rights in Crimea and the Donbass in 2012.

      Non-issue, just buy it.

There should be no more European colonial holdings in the new world, especially when it dwarfs the mother country.

Even if the Greenlanders sign a deal like that, it will be broken as soon as it becomes convenient: deals made under duress and blackmail don’t last
