Said it last week already – the cooperation between (Dutch startup) Destinus and Rheinmetall is exemplary for the European military-industrial complex. This is how it should be done – develop quickly, scale fast, fill crucial gaps. Using the Ukraine war as a „testing ground“ is only natural and helps Ukraine also.

More startups and established large companies should do it and *are* doing it. This is exactly the kind of dynamism Europe needs to gain true strategic autonomy as quickly as possible.

Huge (geographically only, it is dwarf economically and population wise) obese adversary requires big fat missile

2000 km feels a bit short imo, 4000 km would be ideal, and 6000 km would be perfect. We need something that could be launched from our continent and could strike nearly anywhere on the planet.

    4. In November 2025, the Netherlands‘ then State Secretary challenged Dutch companies to develop a cheaper Tomahawk-like weapon „within six months“.

There was some scoffing on the sidelines about the timeline but it’s been six months, it was a more international collaboration, and now…alsjeblieft!

This Ruta Block 3 has a smaller warhead (250kg vs 450kg) than the Tomahawk but it has a 2,000 km range compared with the latest Tomahawk Block V’s „>900 nautical miles“ (~1,700 km).

      From [Destinus‘ website](https://www.destinus.com/post/destinus-accelerates-ruta-block-3-development-program-with-rheinmetall-to-scale-european-long-range-strike-production):

      >In the Netherlands, Destinus serves as the engineering and design authority and the primary RUTA production site, already manufacturing the family at scale.

      >In Ukraine, Destinus will contribute to both the development and operational testing of RUTA Block 3 and will act as a center for the manufacturing of essential components.

      >In Germany, the planned Rheinmetall Destinus Strike Systems joint venture is expected to add high-rate manufacturing, qualification, and final integration capacity for Bundeswehr and broader European institutional customers.

      >Production at Rheinmetall’s Unterlüß site is planned to begin with RUTA Block 1 and Block 2 in 2026-2027, complementing existing serial production in the Netherlands, with Block 3 to follow as it progresses through flight testing and qualification.

    5. This headline makes it sound like we plan to bomb Ukraine as a way to test our new missiles.
