Ich habe Vasallen einbezogen und einige Grenzen sehen aufgrund der Einschränkungen der von mir verwendeten Website historisch falsch aus.

China alone made up 25%. I don’t think this is that surprising.
Not surprising given how few „countries“ existed in 1800. There was only one very young independent country in the whole of North and South America. Outside of the US, the New World was divided between the European powers, England, Spain, France, etc. These same European powers had holdings elsewhere. Nearly all of the several dozen countries of the middle east were part of the one Ottoman Empire. Russia and China were even larger than they are today. Most of the many countries of Eastern Europe were either in the hands of the Austrian Habsburgs or Russia. There were fewer than 100 polities in the world that could credibly be labeled ‚countries‘ at the time, (there are only 195 even today after the old colonial empires fell apart) so saying 90% of the world’s population lived in the largest 20 of those isn’t actually saying all that much.

Wow, hard to believe that Japan had more people than the entire Ottoman empire. It makes sense considering Japan had been at peace for more than a century while the piece of furniture has been almost continually at war. Disappointing how the Ottomans squandered their demographic potential.
wait the naples comparison is wild, like 5 million people packed into that tiny area while half the continents barely register. whats the source for these population numbers tho? id be curious how accurate census data even was for places like qing china or the ottoman territories in 1800, feels like theres a huge margin of error there
In 1800, Đại Việt was missing the southern region, which the Nguyễn lords had already retaken from the Tây Sơn before ultimately destroying the dynasty and unifying Vietnam in 1802.
If Southern Vietnam is included, the population could have reached around 8 million people.
