Specifically, these guys make (made) synthetic sapphire.

It’s used for making transparencies for things like missiles, particular supersonic and heat seeking missiles. So these are essential for air defense.

This is a „dual use“ technology, so they can likely source this from overseas. But of course the price will go up substantially.

I understand how some Russian companies would be failing right now but I honestly dont understand how this particular company could be. Surely if anyone in Russia is doing well, it would be them?

      Can someone help me understand?

Russian government has a gun to their head to ensure they work for free. Somehow working for free isn’t manageable in business tho, so they declare bankruptcy.
The owners will now be arrested and/or thrown out the closest open windows. It’s a lose-lose situation when working with Putin.

So they will restructure… in the short term there may be little impact. They probably have trouble hiring and maybe some employees leave.

Lets see if Putin bails them out. Certainly will cause some sort of disruption either way.
