    1. In mitigation, the court was told that the accused was a very talented footballer who played at League of Ireland level.

He added that his client is currently applying to join the Defence Forces and has passed the aptitude test, but they are unwilling to take him until the matter is dealt with.

In her judgment, Judge Sinéad Ní Chúlacháin remarked that not all of the stolen money had been spent on cocaine, stating: “I would love a trip to Liverpool myself.”

It’s mad that being good at football is wheeled out as a mitigating factor as if talent cancels out robbing people. And the judge saying how not all the stolen money went on drugs doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in sentencing standards. If the Defence Forces are holding off on him, that tells you everything you need to know about whether he should be anywhere near a position of public trust.

*“Why should they have to pay for your cocaine?” the judge remarked*. …. State solicitor Brian Robinson informed the court it will take Mr Cullen 17 years to repay the total amount

So basically we can scam companies of large sums of money and receive a slap on the wrist. Complete madness!

Well so long as he is repaying it I can sort of get on board with that and don’t believe prison would serve someone in that situation any good buuuuuuut I also think someone like that shouldn’t be in the defence forces I know they struggle for numbers but let’s not lower the bar to make them up

Can we rate these three in order of acceptability:

      1) Trips to Liverpool – great city and great football club.
      2) OnlyFans – mans gotta do what a man’s gotta do
      3) Cocaine – not a fan but if you’re gonna go full pelt at the first 2 and the shops are outtta red bull then ok

Sums up the Irish economy pretty well. Get a job helping foreign companies avoid paying tax overseas. Use your money to fund the Colombian, British and Romanian economies.

Would Just like to remind everyone of that person who got 6 and half years for burning a bus.

    8. Do people realise that accountants are not independently regulated? They self regulate through 7 different chartered societies that each have different policies and procedures.
Revenue do not give tax advice.
Anyone can call themselves an accountant. There is no law stopping this.
Accountanting is cowboy country for criminals like this to expose
God love his poor victims. The distress he caused them has not been addressed by this punishment.
Financial distress is one of the biggest causes of suicide.
      Shame on this judge

The most shocking element of this is the complete waste of opportunity. Trips to Liverpool and only fans subscriptions…

    10. 8 year sentence reduced to a 5 year suspended sentence. After all of these other excuses are trotted out… mammy and daddy must have some clout

    11. Glad to see McDonalds being used to mark his lavish lifestyle in this corporate greed crisis

      The law is an ass.

Absolute lowest of the low from his barrister of course “…but that his mother left the family home in 2022, “which caused him to fall asunder”, with him also quitting college during this time period.“

It seems like it’s everyone fault but his. The firm he worked for, his poor mother, Liverpool FC, Arklow drugs dealers…

Kinda feel bad for that Garda and the DPP putting this case together just to get knifed in the back by the judge who could have jailed him for 8 years but gave him 5 and then suspended all of it. He’ll fit in right well with the Army if he’s going there next.

Is that really the character of a person who should be working in the defense forces?

Man steals over 100k, punishment is to treat it like an interest free loan? I’d love an interest free loan of 100k to be paid over 17years. Stick it in a house or ETF and it would pay itself off. Such an ignorant punishment by the judge. Scumbag should at least be made pay 5% interest on the money he stole so his victims aren’t completely fucked over.

Imagine ruining your life to go on exotic trips to… Liverpool.
