I’m still getting a chuckle out of Trump trying to read Xi’s notebook when he got up at a meal. “Ah, just as I suspected, this is all in Chinese. I think Xi might be Chinese!”

    2. This should be standard operating procedure for anyone traveling to/from China, but doubly so for anyone in government or working for any business that isn’t a restaurant or some other low importance business.

Same for anyone of even remote importance visiting the US.

    3. I’m fairly certain we’re at the stage of being able to embed listening devices into a business card.

As an aside, The Uk advises officials travelling to the USA are also advised to use burner phones

This has been a rule for a long time. If you were taking things into China in 2006, it was assumed it was being copied and or bugged.

      Edit: things I meant electronics.

Giant plane from Quatar though? Nope, nah, that one can stay. We totally got that one figured out. No way anyone could hide something in an incredibly complex gilded flying machine. Super okay for the president of the united states to use.

    7. The plane being one of those gifts that should have been thrown away is the irony of all ironies omg lol

if the Chinese painted some pins in gold there is no way he hands them out

    9. WorldInWonder on

Nothing new. We were doing this back in 2006 when out there on corporate trips.

    10. I wonder if there is already surveillance technology that the visitors potentially swallowed in their food.

    11. Legitimate_Ball_1017 on

This is standard practice in the business world when visiting China.

Is this a story because they got on the plane with those items in the first place?

    13. Isn’t it sort of blowing the gaff on the level of technology the US itself employs.

    14. Honestly, makes sense. Guaranteed not everyone will listen though. They all think they’re above rules. No way China would bug THEM after all

    15. Embarrassed-Cat3651 on

the fact that they had to be TOLD to throw away gifts from a foreign government trip is the real story here. this should be standard protocol already

    16. Aschebescher on

100 percent Trump himself kept something in his pockets because Xi told him it’s fine.

    17. DoomedKiblets on

Probably should throw the plane away too, just cuz, yeah, you know already.

Did they send the order out over a Signal chat with an accidentally invited journalist?

As for the giant plane from Quatar they took a year to go through every part of that plane to supposedly make sure it security safe but we have ineffective security personnel so they are flying in a giant listening device and probably a giant flying bomb considering you can make C-4 look or be anything and all it takes is the right frequency to cause the explosion 💥. The people from Quatar did not give that plane to Trump out of the kindness of their hearts and anyone who thinks that way is going to probably suffer a problem in life because what looks like a honey trap and smells like a honey trap and quacks like a honey trap is most likely a honey trap and should have been treated as such, that plane should have been flown to the most isolated location we have parked on the end of a non-operational runway and left there to rot. We should never had spent millions or billions of tax payer dollars on a honey trap.

    20. BoringMagazine6092 on

That defunct Russian Airline is another honey trap, it’s funny instead of trying to safeguard our country from foreign spies we buy the spy equipment directly.

    21. They think they’re preventing spying.. China laughs.. been doing it for decades

    22. Affectionate_Hornet7 on

Did they actually get a competent person in charge of something for once?

    23. Wr were a wholly owned subsidiary of a Chinese company. We advised similar to our employees when they came back from visiting HQ. We also wiped their temporary laptops as soon as they landed.

    24. ScottsTotsRedemption on

Why is this news it’s just normal operating procedure release the fucking files

    25. I guarantee you people are holding on to stuff, using the ‚If my boss can do it, I’m allowed to clause‘

    26. My former employer didn’t allow us to take our regular phones/laptops to China — they gave us loaner ones with different credentials and disabled ports. And if those devices were ever out of our sight*, we were not allowed to use them at all.
      * out of sight included having anyone “inspecting” them.

    27. The real news story should be that Trump probably received some gaudy gold gift that will sit on his desk listening to everything because he thinks Xi is his friend.

    28. JohnBrownSurvivor on

Ten to one, Trump kept it all. He is just so greedy that he probably doesn’t care that there are bugs in there.

    29. Adventurous-Depth984 on

lol Elon was there on a violation of a court order that would have put any of us in jail the instant we set foot back on US soil

They’re going to do whatever the hell it is they want.

    30. Just watch, Trump will enthusiastically wear some kind of bug as a point of pride. I’m sure China duped him hard and it’ll be hilarious.

    31. Sparkycivic on

Can I have their gifts and phones?? Would be fun to inspect that stuff for tampering

    32. acrowsmurder on

Trump next week: „Look at this phone I got from my best friend Xi. Terrific phone. Well, not so terrific. My phone is better. Did you hear about my phone?“
