    1. He’s not wrong.

Alberta needs to try to fix it’s own mess, instead of trying to privatize healthcare, purchase useless Turkish Tylenol, blame everything on Ottawa and call it a day.

He’s absolutely correct. These separatists really have unattainable expectations.

The central banker, from the most centralizing political party, says citizens from a province should not have their say weither they can choose for themselves or not? pikachu face :O

His goal is to collect as much taxes to funnel via subsidies to large corporations to make the rich richer and protect their assets by creating inflation via low rates, money printing, government spending.

The whole argument people are making in light of this ruling is amazingly ass-backward. They seem to feel that we should just suspend the constitution so they can have whatever they want.

Of course, if we’re going to do that, then we’d might as well just nationalize Alberta’s oil and render the whole thing a moot point.

I don’t want to hear anyone say anything about “why should we consider what 5% of the population wants?”

Approximately 3.4–3.5% (based on 2021 Census data, the most recent detailed breakdown available).113
According to the 2021 Canadian Census:

      • First Nations (single identity): 145,645 people.

Total population of Alberta: 4,262,635 (or ~4,177,715 for certain identity/population-in-private-households figures).

      • This works out to roughly 3.4–3.5% of the provincial population.1
      For context:

      • The broader Indigenous identity population (First Nations + Métis + Inuit + multiple/other responses) was 284,465, or 6.8% of Alberta’s population.

Who else would they take equalization payments from to bribe Liberal provinces to vote Liberal while actively demonizing as much as possible. Alberta plays a very important role for the LPC!

Why does Canada get so upset if Alberta wants to leave?

What do they have to gain?

All well and good as long as Quebec plays by the same rules. I don’t recall any talk of consultation of FN back in ’95, which again is all well and good as long as the person spearheading this has not received significant support (for example 50k) from foreign sources such as the Tides Foundation.

    9. The thing is, even though the premier has stated that she’s going to appeal the decision, what does that mean for the separatist question now?

    10. Everyone I’ve talked to that’s supportive of this thinks we’re going to get that great new deal. If Marlaina has her way we’ll be worse off than we are now.

Most Albertans agree. This whole thing is wildly blown out of proportion.

Unpopular view – but I do firmly believe that a greater North American Union would be better for all, and is inevitable if you extend the timeline out long enough. The future of this continent is not one out of Balkanization, but instead, one of greater unity.

Just like in Quebec, If the majority of people in the province want to seperate then so be it.

Down vote away but like if they can pull it off, all the power to them.. Clearly the rest of Canada doesn’t share the same Ideals as a large number of Albertans or this wouldn’t be an issue.

    13. If Carney thinks this week’s decision means he doesn’t need to address the valid grievances of Albertans – he would be mistaken.

Give them their pipeline, drop the carbon tax, give them a hug from Ottawa. Just get it done and quickly.

did u know GTA‘ GDP is twice the size of entire Alberta‘ GDP ? if something can be independent on its own its GTA in this country noone else can pretty much survive on their own …

I am not entirely sure if Ottawa hates Alberta so much. Why do they want to keep a province that doesn’t share the same values? Oil money, I guess.

    17. If Canada can join the EU why can’t provinces renegotiate their relationship with Ottawa? Don’t say the the Law – the Law has no teeth. Maybe dissolve Canada entirely? Carney is working on that. Alberta separation is a ludicrous idea – but less ludicrous than Quebec’s – that’s hung over Canada for 200 years. I think it’s time we treat Canada the way foreigners and Ottawa see us – as just economic and political zones – break it up and the various groups in Canada and the world fight for the scraps. I’m not hopeful for this country. There’s no reason to be

    18. When she ran down to kiss the feet of the Orange Baboon was the time I knew she was a separatist.

    19. Remaining in Canada is the best place for pretty much every province and territory, especially now with the US looking to snatch up its neighbours

    20. I still wish Carney had firmer words.

It feels absolutely maddening living in Alberta where this ridiculous question is even in popular discourse. It’s so mind-numbingly stupid and embarrassing.

There need to be louder anti-separatist voices out of Alberta to help stifle the extremely loud perma-whining separatists
