How do these numbers compare to waiting lists for anything else healthcare related?

18 years. They might just as well come out and say “look, we’re not doing it, you’re on your own”.

We really are a country of true equality, doesn’t matter your colour or creed or sexual orientation, you’ll be waiting years for basic medical attention just like everyone else. Unless you’re rich of course.

I wonder if this is enough hoops for people who are against gender affirming care…🙃

And HSE has a hiring freeze I believe. I waited nearly a year to see an ENT, 3 months in private. Why can’t we treat our healthcare as an emergency and hire more doctors, nurses and hospital staff? It is not like healthcare is free like most of EU, we pay a fortune to see a GP and on prescription medicine. Such an undignified living when you are living with illness and awaiting care and you just want to get better. People who are quite wealthy just fly to UK to a private hospital for treatments anytime they want.

To address the detransition concern trans healthcare is healthcare. Most studies show that fewer than 1% to 3% of patients experience regret after gender affirming surgery. Some studies suggest up to 13.1% of people may detransition at some point, many do so due to external pressure, discrimination, or financial issues rather than a change in gender identity. When regret occurs, it is frequently linked to a lack of social support, discrimination, or the realization that gender dysphoria was related to other, untreated issues.
For context approximately 20% to 30% of patients report dissatisfaction or regret following knee replacement surgery, So should they stop receiving treatment? i am genuinely curious if anyone still has any qualms.

Christ that’s a horrendous website, ads over 90% of the screen. It’s a shame how small newspapers are reduced to that

Given a finite budget, and demands from all sectors of society for greater spend in their segment, it seems rational that cancer care etc is going to be given priority over gender affirming care. We don’t live in a utopia so unfortunately it can’t all be paid for by the tax payers.

the system as it exists is clearly inadequate. we’re overdue for switching to an informed consent model

Gender affirming care is just health care, it’s only trans people who have to jump through hoops to get it. Ireland was really reliant on the UK for some of that care and that’s obviously not an option anymore, which made things so much worse. 18 years is tragic.

If there’s approximately 240 working days per year, and that’s conservative, there’s 4,320 working days in 18 years. How is it that person number 2500 won’t see someone until 4320 working days later. Are they working through cases at a rate of 0.6 persons per day? Or is the service simply not funded/supported enough to provide a whole time cover?

18 years of waiting so some guy can ask you what you think about when masturbating and then reject you for being depressed after 18 years of waiting.
