„Man könnte meinen, wir leben in der Schweiz“, veröffentlichte Ungarns neuer Premierminister Péter Magyar ein Video aus Regierungsgebäuden, das noch nie zuvor für die Öffentlichkeit zugänglich war. Es zeigt das 250 Millionen Euro teure Anwesen aus der Orbán-Ära und fragt, wie Beamte in so einem Luxus lebten, während das Land jahrelang mit einer Wirtschaftskrise konfrontiert war.

Yeah … I thought the country was so bankrupt that Magyar wouldn’t get anything done and Orban would easily get reelected. But looking at this I don’t see how Orban fans can forgive him. It’s on camera now not merely in writing in small papers outside the country.

And this is just the beginning. The far-right pro-Russia side needs a new party now because even stupid people have a limit to their stupidity.

Any golden toilet pans? Or at least brushes for those?

Joking about how it’s a pale imitation of the mind-boggling laugh-inducing ruzzian „cygan barocco“ mansions … i don’t even want to bother anymore.

    3. I like the transparency, seems like they will take good care of cleaning up the mess.

All the best to our brothers and sisters in Hungary! Better times are ahead

Haha „Ceaușescu feeling“ is all the words I understood and as a Romanian, yup, that’s accurate

    5. Reminds me bit of when Yanukovych fled Ukraine and people started going through his mansion

How did officials live in such luxury? Whelp, follow the money. Given the positions they took, I suspect the money trail leads to Moscow.

    7. Honestly, looks like any common upper-politician architecture (maybe disregarding some golden stuff) I ever saw. Nobody would expect they work in 50 year old commie squats like 300-people-village mayors, surely?

Lots of the stuff (ceiling lamps, 19th century buildings etc.) is obtained/improved throughout the history of past centuries…

edit: thanks to all for the comments, indeed if this was built in the past few years while claiming „there’s no money“, it’s chutzpah.

Offtopic, but Hungarian is so alien to this Indo-European dummy that for the first time in a while, I am genuinely unsure what I want to do with the cookies. Do I want to Elfogadom? Sounds like I’m agreeing to surveillance, but then again Tovabbi Lehetosegek sounds like there’s anal probes involved too so I’m not sure what to do…

    9. At the end of many dictatorships is the tour of the palace(s). The cycle never changes.

Just like Putin and Trump. It’s almost like a hard rule

Nationalist sociopaths who govern on grievances have no positive morals or vision and misuse power to amass wealth.

    13. Kaito__1412 on

Orban and his associates were simply preparing for the new Western World order called the Dark Enlightenment that should lead to techno-feudalism. It’s a right-wing project that the current American government and the republican party are pushing for.

    14. Just like the 1-billion ballroom in the name of security while Tom can’t afford food or gas on the street. Same game different name.

    15. Tough_Response_904 on

The „Department of the interior“ is called „belugy“miniszterium which reads like „Belüge“ministerium in German or the Department of „Lying to you“.
Its a bit of a stretch, but as Austrian this amuses me more than it should.

    16. Mental_Guarantee_613 on

Trump and MAGA loved Orban and are now trying to simulate his excesses.

Below are missing in this luxury compound though..

      1) Swimming pool
      2) sauna/jacuzzi

Orban & his clan doesn’t like these?

    18. Top_Meaning6195 on

Selling that furniture should easily plug the budget deficit. Not only for this fiscal year, but for decades to come.

Or they could return to reality, and do what’s actually required.

    19. FblthpLives on

This kind of excessive luxury does not exist in government buildings in Switzerland.

    20. Teppic_XXVIII on

I get the reference, but they’ve clearly never visited the Swiss government buildings. Austerity, functionality and efficiency take precedence over luxury, even though the buildings are clean, comfortable and spacious.

    21. So it’s is like spending money on gold geegaws and ballrooms and vanity monuments while the populace is struggling to feed their families, afford necessities, pay for fuel, their farms and businesses are going bankrupt and people are losing their life savings just paying for basic healthcare?

And what you are telling me is that this is wrong, it is obscene and that those who treated their citizens in that way have been removed from power and are being held accountable? Interesting.
